...I salute you!!!

Man, how damn hard is it? Was trying for a rabbit this afternoon (to feed my new puppy) when I thought I would have a toot on the whistle. Sure enough (and to my utter amazement), just like in the DVD's, a damn fox comes bouncing out of the bush. Well I start shaking and twitching, forget to keep whistling, draw too early etc etc. Managed to get the fox's interest back and he gets within 30 yards, I cant hold on any longer and spit the whistle out and yell STOP...well, fox stops and I pull the shot, pin lands in a blackboy just above the fox, fox runs off like its tails on fire.

Its about now that my heart jumps out of my mouth and slumps on the floor. Talk about exciting...and bloody difficult!! To all of you who have taken a fox with the bow....damn, thats some serious talent!!!

Oh, and im still shaking 3 hours later!!!!!!

Its all great fun, aye. Nothing like having a fox come pelting towards you. after you take your first one they get easier...well not for me. i shot 3 in the one morning and haven't got one since! cant wait till the young dogs come out after the breeding so i can get twice as many in the one morning:D;). keep having a go at them, it will happen sooner or later. i know its hard but try and stay calm, thats what i did and it worked.

Good luck.

You'll get one, because you're addicted now. So long as he is headed in the right direction and he keeps moving, there is no need to whistle continuously, so don't be too concerned about that. Draw when you can-when his eyes are covered if possible, if not when he takes a sniff of the ground while on his way in. I find they remember the whistle aswell. I had to stalk old mate in my avatar because he bolted when he heard the whistle. There is something extra gratifying about taking out foxes, probably because of the amount of lambs you save the property owner. Keep at it and it won't be long.

LMAO! Welcome and mate, there is no turning back now, its addictive!

I went out today and after 10 minutes on the whistle, a big fox came in to end up behind me at 3 meters! Very frustrating.....he snuck around the back leaving me at full draw in the wrong direction.

Still, the day ended with a few goats so it ended well.

I have shot a few over the years and they still get my ticker thumping.
I use a tenterfield whistle, cut it down so its small enough to hold in my mouth whilst I am drawing my bow, I can continue to whistle this way - if required. Using this method I have called them in to a few feet, and when that pins on his airbags, cut the shot, and try not to soil yourself like duffman.

I have 3 diff whistles on my lanyard to mix it up...my first one came in so hard he nearly slid to my feet..and i was behind the tree ..not in front..bummer...next one came over the dam wall behind us and nearly collected my boy..who smashed him as he turned to run...i love when they realise its too late..and their ears go back...the please mister look in their eyes...nearly makes me not release...NOT!

Yeah I really must do something about my whistle. I obviously have the sound just right but its a big bugger made from two shotgun shells (stuck end to end). Looks the shisle and is super loud but its like...well, holding two shotgun shells in your mouth!! I had to spit it out to tell the fox to stop, which was sort of like when you fart and sneeze at the same time...confusing but does the job!

I may also need a man nappy....

If you haven't already done so tie some string to it so you can hang it around your neck, That way you only have to drop it out of your mouth when the time is right.

Thats a Pro Whistle by Glen Coughlan Eco...bloody great whistle..esp for distance..i use one of them mainly and have a tin button also on my lanyard..and sometimes a Tenterfield...you can mount the 'pro' to a lanyard... he knocked me up a custom with a little keyring thru it to fix to my lanyard....you put a drop of hotmelt inside the whistle up against the edge/corner...then drill a tiny hole diagonaly thru the corner of the whistle where the glue is and fit a tiny keyring...the hot melt seals it.....just make an abrupt noise..bark..oi!..or speak when you want them to freeze and look...but be in front of a bush or tree..not behind..and have your bow drawn early...and try and contain the excitement...and the buggers can go a fair way with an arrow thru their chest..so watch em hard...hope this helps...by the way..a treestand works..but you ussually have to shoot at about 20m...;)

Hi Eco, mate keep that whistle in your mouth the whole time, and keep away from saying stop as that will spook more foxes then not, instead give out a little growl when there at the desired distance or 2 if need be. Take the shot then keep whistling as if nothing has happened others could be on there way in or some missed foxes will turn back to the whistle if they haven't seen you for a second opertunity.

Welcome to the realm of Fox Whistling/Hunting......

My two most memorable fox's are my 1st and my 30th Bday fox.

The first one I have ever whistled came running in that hard and had my adrenaline running as hard that the faster n harder I whistled the faster n harder she ran eventually I spat the whistle at 4 feet said G'day! and the look on her face was priceless.

My 30th Bday one was asleep on a track that I walk frequently while huntin 10yards quartering through the lungs out the chest she ran 20yrds headbutted a tree and stopped right there.

They still get my pulse a racing every time.....

Keep at it you'll get one and when you do ........................

Make one that you can keep in your mouth whilst shooting your bow, many times, as Adam said, more than one fox can come into the stand. I had 5 come within a few minutes, serious pucker factor.......

Take your time when your taking the shot, the little bit of extra time taken will result in more hits in vital areas, if you rush the shot, thats when you tend to pull your shots and the end result is more missed foxes, or even worse more wounded foxes. Sure a few get away and you havn't even let an arrow loose at , but they will always be there for next time. Thats where i prefer to try a different call, maybe a squarker or a bird chirper.
