gday,
just wanting to find out if anyone else has had, or is having this problem. i have recently had fitted a hooded alloy peep to my BEAR- XLR 1st STRIKE since setting up and dialing in my spot hogg sight i have noticed after many practise shots the the hood on my peep is touching and cutting into the 2 plastic coated stainless steel cables every time i fire...... not sure as to what to do as the peep hood is becoming very sharp.... only thin i could think of was to insulate the 2 cables with a bound of electrical wire and hone the peep a little.

i can get a few pics if what i have said is had to picture and understand.

cheers
Jake

Get rid of the hooded peep, and put a standard peep in. If you fit an STS, that should stop it as well.

you can see the slight dent in the RHS of the peep and the shiny alloy edge i have carefully filed down

and here is the set up i have in place to stop the peep hood from cutting thru the cable....... i did have just back insulation tape on it but then removed it this arvo and put self-amalgimating tape in place (to act like a tuff rubber barrier)

i know it doesnt look pretty but... i recon it will work

i dont hanna replace it with another peep right now, im happy to stick with it... and due to the fact i live on an island and dont get alot of time to just head down the archery shop.... id rather try an correct the problem with my own "McGiver" skills ha ha ha

Well than get rid of the rubber tube, that is what will make the peep go crazy, not to mention it's aiming at your eye.

mate the rubber tube is there to make sure the peep aligns up with the sight, if i take the rubber off the peep spins round and i cant see thru it

You tie your D loop in line with the peep..so as you draw the peep aligns to your eye..no need for the tube....

Maybe your are approaching this in the wrong way maybe your problem isn't the peep. I would check to see if you cable slide has moved because your cables look very close to the string. I think you need more clearance ie cables further to the left then the peep wouldn't hit the cables.

Good thinking Rin...maybe a photo of the cable slide may be helpful??

Simon I am pretty sure thats the problem I have never seen a bow do that before. I will add it to the list.;)

I am surprised you can still buy steel cable bows.
STS is a rod that comes from the riser with a rubber sleeve on the end, to just under the string.
Put some wax on your string, looks like it fluffing up a bit.
I think you could be right Rin.

okay fellas will try and get a pick of the cable slide for ya asap..... i have already adjusted the cable slide arm (correct terminoligy?) 90 degrees to the cables, so its at maximum adjustment at the moment. maybe i might need a bigger off set? instead of being 1inch... maybe needs to be 2inches?

The cable guard should be adjusted so the fletches just miss the cables, by maybe 2mm.....

Theres way more clearance than on my Ross..dont know how the peep is hitting the cable???...a pic from the back showing the peep may help...but it may be the rubber doing it...if you need a self aligning peep with the rubber..id suggest ditching the hooded peep for a standard plastic model that fits within the string....as for steel cables..yes they are older technology ..but many new bow models still come with them

I just went and checked my bow and your peep is very close to the cable. I have a Hoyt Ultraelite and there is a much bigger gap.:o http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o7/JAKE-DA-MUSS/P7220202.jpg
