View Full Version : New Deer property, great arvo walk!
I finally got a chance to have a look at a new property this afternoon. The property owner has seen both Sambar and fallow and I had found both lots of prints and scat to suggest he was right! Spotted one Sambar around 25", nearby a solid rub tree. He was big bodied and having no time for me!
I will leave this area for a bit and plan an attack for the coming weeks.
Here is one dam I came across on the outskirts of the property. There was sign there but a few days old.

And a neaby rub (old).

The game trails into this spot were very well used!

...and they left evidence...

Into the next gully and another watering hole.

Again, sign was everywhere but more recent.

I followed a thin gully along one game trail and came across this little haven. I found fallow scat not more than a few hours old.

Then a little later, bingo!

Arhhh yes that ugly word called "work"!
Best of luck mate, It'll be sooner rather then later when you draw out one of those many blades you have to dress out a critter.
Cool looking bush too, just made for a bowhunter.

waiting waiting waiting...........
I cant wait to see these photos gundy!!
What kind/brand of camera did you get?
My wife has just ordered 2 of these,
http://www.amazon.com/HCO-ScoutGuard-SG550-Infrared-Scouting/dp/B001BWX99K/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_i/105-0771398-1755665
and 2 security box's. One to stay on a deer wallow, and one to set up on carcass's to try and get photos of wedge tailed eagles/fox's/wild dogs etc...etc... She cant wait for them to arrive (and neither can i)lol
RV, we have got some Scout Cam 'Wildview' 5 mpx ones. No locks as most of our properties are private, key to gate stuff.
I am not home until the weekend, so a few days after that, I am hoping to have some photos to share.
I have some awesome shots of sea eagles (of a good mates) over carp carcases....and hawks, foxes, tip turkeys etc... :)
Sounds great gundy. I have a cheap wildview 2mp, i bought mine for the single purpose of seeing whats around the areas i hunt. My wife just wants good quality photos of wild animals.
With mine, i find that in order to get deer photos, it normally needs to stay in untouched for a week or more. Thats with sambar, ive never tried it with any other deer.
A couple of weeks ago, a mate and i were hunting and found a nice looking wallow, so i put the camera on it for a week and found a nice young stag about 16 inches sussing out the wallow.
Problem with mine is that the flash scares the deer off!!lol At night time i usually only get one photo.

Small update.
One of the best wallows we have found to date. We are going to watch this one a lot closer than the others over the next couple of weeks.

Also found a fresh patch of rubs today, not a big deer, but droppings suggested he was around this morning.

That spot looks the goods goodluck and keep the pic's coming
Will do Warra. We are going out again this arvo to check the photos, as I am worried the batteries need changing. Then the cameras can stay there for 4 weeks so that we can get some data.

Not to mention some rather large prints! Would not mind running into this fella. There has been sightings of a wild dog/dingo in the area.

Its magic country. Marc (Sambar Stalker II) steadily working a gully.

Downloading the photos from one of several game cameras. Hunting has gone high tec!

Awesome gundy!!! Those prints are very close together. At first i thought it might of been a wombat, but wombat prints are normally spread out wider than that!!
That wallow out in the open like that is amazing. Where dod you say this joint was again??lol
Rob, we thought wombat too, but there are others in another gully that are definately 'dog'!
Now, the location.....what? :)
Getting some great photos from a couple of the cameras! So far, 4 seperate stags have entered this wallow. Here is a shot of one of the smaller ones, a small spiker.
