Gday Guys
Grabbed the bow and vid camera when i got home from school and headed out in hope of shooting some more bunnys on film.
On the first part of the plataue i could only see 20-30 rabbits getting about. i can never really get closer than 30-40m on these guys so i just kept walking, letting them make it to safety.
I crossed the fence and set up the tri-pod so i was ready to film on the side of the hill. as i turned the camera on a kitten ran down from my right and sat at its hole only 10 or so meters away. I got him centred on screen and hit record, he was onto me as i went to draw and unfortunatly he came out on top, scooting under ground not to re-surface.
Time was getting on and i thought i better do the same so i kept walking the side of the plataeu having rabbits run from cover for the safety of their warrens not 20m away. I couldn't help but notice the small number of rabbits out compared to a normal night, usually i'd see close to 100 rabbits run from one small patch of thissles scattered about on the side of the hill but today i only saw about 30.
I walked around the saddle in the hill and put in a quick stalk on two kittens and an adult rabbit, i got to about 30m and they dissapeared down their dark holes. moving on. i got the camera ready for the spot where i poke my head over a rise looking down onto a warren, if im lucky a rabbit will be sitting outside and i can sometimes get a shot away. Once i made ot to the spot, i cautiously raised my head over the rise to have a nice clean rabbit hop up onto its warren, it didn't really know i was there as i could see it calmy blinking (Just Love Getting In So Close!). i got the camera set up on it but something didnt go to plan and she soon vanished into her hole. I thought i better have a quick look to see if there were any other rabbits around the warren and as i rose a little bit higher i spotted a kitten sitting outside his hole. I got the camera set up on him and i slowly back out, drew the bow and then kneeled over and placed my 10m pin just below the front half of its body. The trigger was hit and the arrow hit harder, the rabbit roled over and slid down the bank. I got down to him and saw that the blunt had taken out the neck, back of the head and chest for an instant kill.
I done the little talk on camera and then done the skinning/gutting job, put it in the bag and continued my hunt.
10minutes later found me kneeling at full draw next to the recording camera set on about 3 kittens cuddled up outside of their chosen hole. I placed the 20m pin and released, the targeted kitten dropped at the shot and the arrow wizzed over its head.
It was getting dark so i headed home with some more footage and a bit of a feed for the ferrets.
All in all, a good arvo out.
