Damn!!! The frustration!!
Managed to whistle in another fox today...this fella was a little more wise and took a good 5 minutes to come into range. He stopped and sat at 25m and gave me a good looking over, I knew I had to have a crack so drew and released with my 30m pin on his throat. HATE to say it but I didnt miss high or low (which I can kinda excuse, given the heat of the moment) but rather, missed by a fraction to the left! To add insult, ole mate didnt run off right away and let me fumble for another arrow before slowly making it to cover!
On the positive side, I guess I am doing something right with respect to location and whistle....however if I dont put a red coat on the ground soon, my old heart might not hold up!! Just goes to show the difference between shooting targets on the range (imagine missing a paper fox from 25m on the range!!) and doing it for real.....its a WHOLE other ball game....and I'm utterly hooked!!!

it can be hard to get over it, eco. i still suffer especially if im having a crack at a critter that would be first of species.

gets the pulse goin dont it? youll get it, try and concentrate on a piece of fur or a small mark on its chest rather than the chest itself, the smaller the better, tricks the mind a bit and helps you see a target not a FOX!!!!!
aim small, miss small mate, seems to work for me atleast, fortunately they dont seem to have reflexes to dodge arrows like rabbits
i'm a guy like me

If you think that is frustrating wait until you hit one and watch it run into blackberry bushes.

next time eco, took me a few misses and poor hits before i finally got to hold one in my hands.
Good luck.
Dan.
Keep at em Eco, it won't be too long before old reynard hits the deck

LOL That sucks mate unlucky.
Stick with it mate, remember just take your time when you are taking the shot. Next time you'll get one, for sure. If not, the time after that.

Eco the old foxs are always hard to get on the ground Thanks Shane
I have taken a few guys hunting their first fox and they have all acted the same, you can see the the adrenaline surging thru em. Jack, Jason and Jeffro all got their first reynards with me and it was a pleasure to see, keep at it, especially as the mating season is approaching and they become less likely to come to the whistle.

Cheers for the support folks. Looking back now it was a damn thrill just to get so close to a wild animal, heck of a thing this bowhunting aint it!!!!
The upside is that these near misses just make me more determined to get it right next time. The hardest bit is controlling the excitement, I literally start shaking which causes the pins to jump all over the shop!!!

Just think target whenever you draw. Try to block out the animal part. You can get excited about it all that once it is on the ground. I know it's hard but be clinical about the shooting part and save the excitemnt for after. It will come easier once you knock a couple over.

Cheers Ant....yeah mate thats what I am trying to focus on. Just trying to replay the moment in my head and mentally telling myself to calm down then picking a small section of fur (chest) and breathing out, then releasing...easy to do whilst sitting at my desk!!! I have a set routine when target shooting so my aim is to implement that on my next game shot. Hopefully, if I am thinking enough about the shot rather than the animal, I might be able to replicate a target shot on a live animal...thats my plan anyway!!
Eco - The hardest bit it controlling the excitement, I literally start shaking etc......
I get like that on my birthday.......................................... ...................
Try going thru your shot sequence, when I get that rush I just focus my attention on centreing my peep around my site housing - which takes my mind off the shakes. Practice at 5 yards and then next time you whistle one into that distance, you'll have your red dog. I have a preminition (?)......Howie
That’s just your hernia acting up Howie....:P
Eco... Just keep em coming till you can poke him with the broadhead then let him have it.;)

Jeez Clemo, I shake like a fat man on a waterbed when they are sitting at 25m...I flat out recon I would soil my pants if one got that close (and probably still miss!).
Very good Clemo..........
You will be surprised at how close you can get foxes to come in, if you keep whimpering, (much like Clemo does on his birthday,) foxes can come sometimes within feet. I have had them that close I could kick 'em. The more time your out there the greater chance, you have the right mind set. Good luck

Eco....i was shooting good sat arvo at the comp...then a guy said"if you get 6 in the gold in a row you get your all gold badge"....everytime i nailed 5..i started to shake thinking about getting the badge...the 6th went way off several times...Rin had a word about not focusing on it..so after 4 or 5 golds i started joking around..or discussing equipment with my shooting partner...and bingo..i got it...just gotta pretend its an everyday occurence and try and ignore the excitement...then the shaking subsides...its even harder in the field i know...but if you want it too bad..you'll prob miss out;)...good luck mate.
