Went for a look in the pine windrows this arvo..it was snowing a bit and freezing..so we thought the Fallow could be taking shelter...yep..a buck and 3 does were up the row..but we couldnt get in close enough for a good shot..so we passed it up...after they moved into the orchard we checked the area out...plenty of good, fresh scrapes..so theres still some rutting going on...found a small piece of casting..i guess its from a "spiker" by the looks of it??....

Hmm...checked out the Trevor Willis Taxidermy page...gotta say they do look more like the Sambar pictured than reds...the biggies are brown to grey..some two tone grey ..some nearly black...and way bigger than the fallows...and they dont roar....suppose ill have to get one on the ground to find out...

I fell a huge dead tree yesterday in the snow..for firewood...a couple of minutes later while cutting it up my young fella started pointing..i looked up to see a dark fallow doe trotting past us about 60m out..wow..they are getting used to us being around i think...trouble is the farmers wife and her friends saw it and told me this morning not to kill them..i told her they are the same ones i hunt next door..she reckons thats ok..just dont do it there where she'll see it:confused:....so the farmer reckons to get into em while the girls are out shopping;)...which is most of the time thank god:P
