Hi all

Can anyone tell me about a second hand recurve I picked up recently?
On the bottom limb it has the following details.

ben pearson
cougar
7050

I would like to know how many pounds draw it is, and at what draw length?
Also, it has no string, so if I am getting a new string made, what length and type should it be?
It is fairly old, is it a good brand of bow or a good model. It seems to be in good condition but I have not strung it yet as I do not have a string for it.
Any info about this bow would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I don't know much about the Cougar, I haven't seen that many Pearson bows over the years. There should be some more numbers on the bow unless they have been removed. Weight should be shown as 55#@28" just as an example if not you will have to use scales to find out the weight at 28" or your draw length. The length of the bow is usually written as AMO 60". Whatever string you get it needs to be 4 inches shorter than the AMO for a starting point. If there is no AMO length measure from tip to tip along the back of the bow along all of the curves, this will give you the bows length...Glenn...

elljammat, I have just done a search on the net and found out that the old cougars were 64" long and the newer 1960 modles have an AMO of 62" which is probably what yours is, it will need a string 58 inches long, if you get a flemish twist string you can twist it up and down to adjust the brace height, suggested brace height is between 71/4" to 8"...Glenn...

Thanks for the input all.
There is no other writing on the bow so the information I have received is very helpful.
