Well at the moment iam currently travelling OZ with a good mate of mine and now were finally getting up into the cape. We were finding it hard to get onto stations so my mate sugested we go and work on one for a week and then we might be able to hunt. So day 1 of work comes around and we tell him were bowhunters then the boss takes off in his helicopter to muster a herd of cattle out of a paddock and when he returns at 2 o'clock he tells us of some 40 pigs he seen on a lagoon just down the road. Come 5 o'clock and we were off. The mob wasnt on the water but we knew they werent too far away so we just kept a look out when i spotted the mob under a tree just as 2 little sows jump up for a stretch, i thought i was busted as they were only 40m away but they slowly layed back down. Off came the shoes and seeing as it was the first pigs of the trip Joe gave me first shot but wanted to tag along incase another shot presented itself. Using the shrubs and a big tree trunk they were bedded behind we stalked into 5m of the first pig of the mob. As i came to full draw i stepped out a little from behind the tree only to see the boar i wanted run then prop at about 20m but as i released he turned and the arrow hit the front shoulder and bounced off. I quickly put another arrow on the string and looked a bit more right to see another bigger boar standing broadside at 30m and now my heart is really racing so i quickly anchored and released and watch the arrow fly then hit the dirty old boar a little bit far back but perfect height and so i was hoping for a lung shot but due to the long grass and all the burnt logs that had my hopes running high every couple of minutes unfortunately i didnt recover him, i was devastated, We even searched the next day after work but nothing. So we done a few more days work and hunted in the arvos but didnt see much so we quit friday as it was obvious we only wanted to hunt and the boss was fine with that so we looked on the GPS and found a nice little area about a km off the road that consisted of 2 swamps no more than 400m apart. Camel backs full and we were off, but just as we spot the lagoon joe sees something black and then a few more black things so off with the shoes and cut across the shallow section of the lagoon to get the wind right. We set up behind the tree and Joe gave me the shot again (he took 2 with his rifle the arvo before). The mob came straight towards us but the big boars aernt stupid they were at the back. So there wasnt much we could do other than watch all the other pigs walk past and hope the wind will hold out. As we sat there the first few fed past us at 10 to 15m then came along the bigger sows with suckers that came to within 3m and that had my heart racing i knew i was alive sitting there watching that. But of course the wind didnt hold out and the sows got the sniff and came bolting back past at 10m, so i let rip getting a pass through on a sow. Just as we lost sight of them in the grass another sow came walking down the track towards us so i looked at joe who had the camera in his hand the whole time and he just gave me the nod and as the sow walked into 15m a came to full draw then followed her as she stopped knowing something was wrong i touched off the release and watched the arrow pass through the heart and into the dirt, She bolted off and we barely lost sight wen we heard the crashing noises. Turned out she had only gone 50m and joe had filmed it (pretty poor quality) but i was wrapped, 2 pigs in 3mins. 4 days work and now weve got a station to hunt so im happy

there is also a pic of our trailer and the reason why were back in cairns getting parts and wat happens wen a spring snaps. And no we werent being lunatics we were only doin 50 kph. Yes there is 2 motorbikes in there but amazingly the trailer held up pretty well and nothing broke inside, we just nedd 2 new springs an axle and 2 new tyres

Good to see you have found some action up there Todd. Here's hoping for heap more tales and be sure to give us updates when you can get internet access. Must be nice to meet an understanding station owner. Make sure you hang on to that joint.

Nothing like an adventure, me and two mates drove the coast for 6 months chasing surf after we finished school. Best time of my life. All the best mate.
