Its been a couple of days since i last updated and a few pigs in between, Not many to the arrow i must add. Day 2 of fixing the trailer seen us finish early enough to walk out to the laggons which was around 1 o'clock so upon the approach to the lagoon we see a lot of cattle on it so we made our way around them to see if we could find a spot in between them where we could get a peek to see if there were any of those black shapes on there. We found a small break and stalked in, but were spotted and they spooked but didnt move 2 quickly so we got our peek and yep fair enough they were their. so we sat down under a shady tree to see what way they were feeding and just as we worked it out another mob walked to the water directly across from us but lucky the wind was right and the lagoon is only shallow. It was Joes shot so he closed the 40m gap to make it 30 but being his first go at a pig for the trip his heart was pumping, he drew anchored and released but the arrow flew underneath. O well i said so being the nice guy iam ha ha, I let him have a crack at the next mob which was only 150m up the lagoon and coming our way. We headed out wide to catch the boars at the back which we thought were bigger, as we walked around the rest of the mob he picked the 1 he wanted. As he stalked in i ranged it at 32m for him but he wanted to go the extra 10 to make sure, a few stare off were invovled and in my head i was saying shoot but it turned out alright. As he released i watch the arrow clean the boar up through the shoulders then watch him run 50m and he was down, Joe was stoked so we took a few photos and off we headed.

On the way out we decided to go see if this big lone boar was out on his waterhole that i spotted on my bike the otherday. Yeh he was there and i got a good stalk to the edge of the lgoon but just as i was about to stalk into the water and across the lagoon the cattle decided they would run from 200m away straight past him and take him with them. So that was the end of that.

we left that station and found a new set of lagoons which turned out to be thumpers. We walked to the first 1 on the GPS but it was dry so we headed to the next but it had plenty of water and no pigs, so i told joe i reckon i know there feeding times which is 10 O clock half an hour from now so we lay down, i nearly fell asleep when joe said pigs, a big mob, and i said sure, but he was fair dinkum there would have been close to 30 pigs. i looked at my watch and yep it was 10 o'clock on the dot so in for a stalk i went with the wind in my face and as i approached the 50m mark i felt a slight breeze on my neck them watch em run. i thoguht that wasnt a bad start to the day so off we went to the next lagoon. on approach we spotted 2 big black things round the other side so we got the wind in our favour and off we went. As i got close i could see a nice boar but i knew i wouldnt be able to get that close so i chose the only big tree and put it between me and him as i got to the tree i ranged him at 52m but i knew i couldnt get any closer so i took the shot, it was the right height but a bit far back. he ran out of the mud and them nearly fell over then stop and the rest of the mob didnt know wat had happened, i watched the big old boar sprint off and take a few stumbles in not too good condition at all but couldnt find him even though we searched the area for ages i thought he was definately down but o well. So off to the next lagoon and you guessed it, but this time those damn cows were back and there wee a lot more bigger pigs in this mob of close to 50. So with low spirits in i went again and i had to get rid of those cattle again which turned out to be easier then i thought, as i neared them they spotted me and slowly trotted of and the pigs stayed. I moved in with a bit of a cross wind but in my favour. On my hands and knees by now i ranged wat i thought was a boar out in the water at 35m and waited for her to move out of the water a bit because only her back was showing. Of course she fed across infront of me a bit not offering me a shot and as the stand off continued the wind just gave a little breath her way and up out of the water she came taking the mob with her thats when i noticed she was a sow, a big sow. i walked back with my head down i couldnt beleive it nothing was just going my way today till i found some little suckers on the way back to the ute which amused me chasing and playing around with em. So theres the update for the time being, hopefully next time you hear from me again i ground some anyway cheers for reading

Keep em coming mate. Good to see you got the trailer back in action. You guys are going to have a fine tally and some very fond memories by the time this one finishes. You are undertaking the trip of my dreams. No obligations, just get out and hunt wherever the road takes you

yeh that was the aim Ant but those bloody lagoons are proving quiet difficult. Id put some of these stalks up with some of the most challenging ive done, even over some deer. Pigs aernt as dumb as everyone thinks they are but o well its nearly that time of day for another walk on some lagoons

doesnt really matter which part of cape york your at if there is a main round near by i garentee someone gives em a touch up, that will be why they are toey. poor old cape york aint what it was. chopper shooting and the huge convey of southern pig hunters each year doesnt help. still alot of good boars around but you need to get right down off the beaten track and get onto a property ( easier said than done). your plan of working on the station for a bit should work well though. looks like you are around the musgrave area, 1 of my favourite parts of the world! ENJOY you lucky bastard!
