After a long stalk today..trying tro blood the new Ross..our hunt was foiled by the greenie next door tearing down behind our quarry...7 does and a nice Fallow buck...and chucking a handbrake turn while blowing the horn...He'd better not stick his head over the fence any time soon:mad:...i was shocked to see the buck try and mate twice out in the open paddock!...anyway heres a few pics...

Its a bummer...he's the only one without an orchard..all the other farmers want them gone...but he protects them...may have to revert to blasting a few with the h/power rifle...he hates that!..doesnt like firearms around his property....he might stop playing games then and let the bows do their thing....must have stalked them for 2 hours on my knees...getting tired of his antics..

Good to see you getting after them mate.

people like that should mind their own business. reminds me of a time when out spotlighting, damn cars all around the paddock flashing their lights and beeping their horns...makes me laugh.

once we went to camp at a state frost not far from my house on my B DAY so we could get up early to go for a hunt but in the camp site just up from us their was a hippy, greeny rave must have bean about 200 of them. they came to our camp to say please do not hunt with bows we don't like it you KNOW WHAT WE TOLD THEM TO DO. But what got me was that the very, very loud music they played all night what did they think it was doing to the bush and what was in the bush. and when they left the next day you should have seen all the rubbish left behind.that we picked up....

I was watching a South Africian bowhunting DVD a few days ago and the dear mother in law walks in and sits down, just in time to see a zebra stallion - among a dozen other animals get zapped. And she starts, "How can they do that" I say, "Haven't we had this conversation b4". I go thru the truth, if it wasn't for hunting and these animals being valuable, alot would be shot as they compete for food with cattle etc etc.
"You eat chicken dont you?" "Yes" she replies.
And you saw that Jamie Oliver t.v show and how they are kept in pens, fattened and then their necks stretched.
Confersation stopped by her. Another win for the meat eaters.........

Not everyone likes hunting, I respect other people's beliefs and of course they should respect mine. I hope you can work it out with your neighbour Special agreeing to disagree or at least some reasonable outcome. I'm not saying I agree with his actions after a 2 hr stalk I would have felt ripped off. I work with people who are on both sides of the fence. I have an agreement with some of them that I won't talk about hunting while they're around. Good luck with gettin amongst em.
cheers

If I was in your position I would get nicely dressed and go and knock on his door. Explain to him that the local orchard owners are planning to have ALL the DEER shot but you convinced them to give you the chance to keep the numbers down with the bow and arrow as this is the most onotrusive method besides poisen. Make it clear that you understand that he likes to have the deer around as they are beautiful to watch , but if he continues to interfere the owners will have no choice but to cull them all.
I have found most people will understand although they may not like it.

Yeah..it may be worth a try...the others all reckon he's a bit "different"...when i suggested the other week..that i ask to hunt his place as well, they all laughed...dont think it'll get anywhere..but it may be worth a try...im not a very good communicator face to face though...

Special I recon Clinglish is close to the mark on what I would do.
Unfortunately there are the extremists in every group of people including hunters and they give all a bad name.
I have found most " Greenies " don't really care about anything but them self's but they give the genuine ones a bad name.
I have some in my street, car plastered with stickers hippy type clothing yet there happy to sweep out their car rubbish into the street and push their garden rubbish into the adjoining state forest.
I always bail them up about it and they promise not to do it again but they do so I get branded an ANGRY PERSON because I have a go at them when I catch them.

The point is don't brand ALL Greenines because of the few idiots in all groups.

I wouldn't do anything to upset him especially if he starts whinging to the neighbours. Just do what you have to do and thump those deer.

If I was you I'd shoot the dear..then invite the neighbour over for dinner. When he/she comments on the fabulous feast.. you can then comment on where it came from...Hey I'll even come over too.. just to balance out the dinner conversation..:P

Goes to show his lack of thought power though. Not the smartest move to be in the line of fire. Suppose you had been lugging a 'high powered rifle' as you said. He could well ahve been bloody shot. What an idoit. And as the saying goes there is no reasoning with idoits.
Not to smart and best avoided IMO

Special, well done just on getting that close to such a large group of fallow. Greenie or no greenie, you done bloody well to get that close.
I like the idea of gutting it next to his fence. Then tan the skin, and hang it up on a frame just inside your fence to dry. If he touches it have him charged with trespassing.

I remember about 20 years ago, i was duckshooting with my old man at lake urana, (back when it had water in it) and there was greenies everywhere in there kayaks and canoes. The lake was only ever 2 foot deep at the deepest!!
Ayhow, i shot a pinkear duck, and it landed in the water and i was all excited. I was only 12 or 13 years old. Then a greenie moved an and grabbed my duck!

Anyhow, there was about 20 other duckshooters that converged on the moron and he soon handed me my duck. Well, threw it at me anyway!!
A few of the greenies at kerang, including the infamous laurie levee (spelling) were actually charged with steeling that year for doing the same thing. The shooters had taken there ducks with the licenses, all legelly, therefore making them the owners of the dead ducks. Then the greenies stole them, and took them to the victorian parliament and laid them all out on the steps!!

"Greeny", one of our much misused labels. I think your neighbour is an "animal lover" or just a bloke with a grudge. What conservationist would want to preserve feral species? Good luck with the fallow and orchard. I'm sure there are venison/apple recepies.

He's cut the hedge down lower between his mansion and the neighbours paddock..so he can watch them..or watch me more likely!...I may have to revert to taking them by spotlight at night..I believe I have the right as a landowner or employee to protect my crops at night...My daughter is now the lead singer(for want off better description) of a Hard core Death Metal Rock Band..might invite them down to practice beside his fence:P...better go and roll out the power leads....

Special, im not sure about NSW, but in victoria, i think using a spotlight to shoot deer is illegal for any purpose, unles a culling permit is issued for the above mentioned reasons.
But after seeing your photos yesterday of how close you got to the deer, i dont see why you would need a spotlight to shoot one. You could of shot one with a gun easily yesterday.
Your lucky to have your own property, becase as much as your neighbour can whinge, he cant stop you hunting on your own property.;)

Exactly..its YOUR property and you have every legal right to reduce the feral population..and BTW no law against using a spotlight for deer on your property or for any other feral game..;)

Went out in the pouring rain today...nearly got one but a roo spooked em...walked a bit and found them again...a magnificent stag(looks like a sambar to me...antlers were round not palmated..dark brown nearly black) was 50m ahead and as i approached a smaller stag with small uneven antlers(spiker?) presented itself fully side on in my row..i couldnt move to draw..just stood there...he jumped the windbreak..the big fella and does went into the windbreak...i got buck fever and tried to shoot too soon...he flinched on release and the arrow skimed under his belly...bummer...half hour later i found them again in the pine..but they were straight onto me and ran...oh well..it cant be long now....if id only waited 20mins in the windrow and crept a little closer...gotta learn the hard way i suppose.....mentioned the neighbours actions on the weekend to the farmers...they werent immpressed...reckon he's a complete DH

I hate that soooooooooo much. The roos always seem to spook just before the deer, and in turn spook the deer.:(
