I am having my wifes family out from Holland in Bourke for a couple of weeks. As part of the experience I took them out two ours west of here to some of my hunting grounds to meet the wonderful personalities that so generously share their time, company and properties with me and also to see the wildlife. The whether and wildlife played their part for tourist operator Warne and they saw kangaroos, goats and birds up to their eye balls in numbers I havn’t seen for a long time (not everywhere but in one particular paddock that had all the feed. We also saw a mob of pigs in the middle of a clay pan as we raced by and emus. All I couldn’t produce were yabbies.
Anyway the point is, I woke up at 5.30am and raced to the new pig spot. Came across a young boar that was moving pretty quickly on the tail of some sows. I cut the corner to cut him off and just got there in time, anticipating him coming out at about 25 yards between two lignum bushes I drew and things went to plan. With the impact of the chest shot he did his angry loops and ran 40yards to go down.

That filled the backpack with meat again and I went after some others. I was to slow on a boar and saw another 10 or sow sows in different small groups. A lovely little walk. I was back at the house at 10.00 only half an hour after the others woke. I took them down to the grassy paddock for brunch, eventually a couple of mobs of goats couldn’t be ignored and I went for a sus.

He went thirty six inches but only around 105 points as he is pretty plain. This paddock just received funding for hinge joint fencing so any more heads are a bonus before its trapped and managed. I saw a cracker when driving though in tour operator mode afterwards too.. I would have given anything to ditch the famly responsibilities and have hunted the paddock properly; I have never seen such a concentration of goats. Oh well, two weeks after I work at Louth Races for some extra coin to take over to the states in two months. Cheers all.
