Hey guys,
After our Narrabri trip was posponed, A quick Plan 2 come to fruition and a trip to the Barringtons soon was established and Ute packed. Friday night saw Taffsy turn up from Sydney to Newcastle a little late due to a car accident on the freeway, and we were off leaving a about 8.00pm.
The couple of hours of driving and before we knew it, the turn off was on us. Its a amazing how time flies while your driving to your spot, both of us pretty excited, this being my first REAL hunt away with the bow, Taffsy done it a few times. Its good to see the excitement doesnt dull with the more trips you put in. Was 11.30ish when we finally got to a camp area after 30 mins of setting up it was into the swags, trying to have a few hours before we got into it early Saturday morning.
Up early, coffee, put on the packs and we set out in search of our quarry. The morning air was very brisk indeed, the walked helped and we did what you do. 6 hours later there wasnt much around we did find some pig sign and some scat, we moved up the the highest area we could find and worked our way back down. Nothing was seen again and we made our way back to camp. We had a couple of rums and decided to have a look with the galsses over the other side of the range.
Almost straight away 2 goats were spotted and we watched them for about 30 mins. They made there way up to near the fence line, and we were praying that they would move through the fence. They didnt!
We did a quick hunt with the camera and Taffsy got a couple of quick ones off before they got a little edgey. They coudnt see him but they knew something wasnt right. They went from slowly grazing to head up, scanning, then did a little trot off, well away from where we were. Back to camp, a couple more rums, and a early one.
Sunday was a pretty similar affair, with nothing seen on the morning hunt. After we packed up we decided to take the long way home and I am glad we did. Not 15 minutes out of the state forest, a mob of Big billies was seen, then another, then another. They know which side of the fences to be on. The further along the road we got the thicker they become. In the end we came accross 70 odd goats ranging from kids thru to a couple of real good billies. A dozen red deer, a feral cat. Was great weekend, just no arrows shot.
