Well after my backapack hunt last week and not catching up with anything on that trip i decided to try out a new property i got access to. This place is still in the flinders but further east and pretty barren and dry. My dad acompanied me on this trip as he knew the country out that way pretty well. We got to the spot the farmer said to look and we spotted a mob moving about up in a gully in front of us. We parked as close as we could and got out to get our gear ready. Just as we were about to leave another mob ran from down wind of us and dad counted 94 in that mob. Sure was a few goats about. we had to circle right around the back to get the wind right and on the way we caught up with another mob and bumped into a couple nannies in the crees as well.

I made ti right back around behind the billies and managed to get in to about 20m from a young billy who had me pinned. I slowly drew the samick back picked the spot and let fly. The shot was good, high angling down and he only went about 10m and piled up.

there were a few good billies in the mob but they dissapeared over the ridge and we started to head back to the first mob we saw. We got to where they were and saw them only about 200m away from our ute. They had dropped right into the valley. This worked out alright as we could have a go at them on the way back to the ute. As we got down into the native pines we looked up to see a heap of goats running at us. The mob must have cut the scent of our ute and were not on a mission to get back to the hill. I positioned myself in their way and took a running shot from about 8m on a big old billygoat. He ran about 40m and dropped dead. He was an old billy with broken teeth and he has the ram style horns that i dont really like so it was a good one to get out the gene pool.

After a few pics we got back to the ute and drove around the track to see what else we could spot. Not much further on we spotted another mob of about 30 and i decided to take a young one for meat. We got the wind right and positioned ourself in some bushes for an ambush. They came past really close and i snapped a few pics off.

The white one is my target meat goat.

A nanny spotted me and gave a snort putting the rest on high alert so i put the camera down and drew back the recurve lining up the young white one and angled the shot through from 10m. The arrow passed straight through and drove into another goat way to far back.. after a few bad words and a short chase i managed to put the other one down as well.
After removing the back legs off the white one (other black one would have been to stressed) and headed back for the ute.

we went for another drive about and saw another big mob with one good billy in it around 105 points. We also checked out some caves on the property and next time i will be back with a good torch as they go for a couple km's underground.
It was a really good day out and was pretty proud of my shooting with the curve for a change. It was just one of those days where everything went right.
