Back at camp i have a full first aid box from st johns with creams and eye flushing equipment etc which generally we have in the car. i carry an assortment of band-aids , a small roll of elastaplast sticky bandage, 2 compression bandages for snake bite, a sheet of paracetamol, 1 of those shiny foil emergency blankets, a small set of scissors, a type of adhesive 'stitch' for bad cuts, rubber gloves, sterile alcohol wipes and other sterile cotton swabs, some medical tape and butterfly clips for securing bandages, anti-septic cream.
All of this in a fairly small pouch.
Thankfully its only ever been extra weight in my pack and have never had to open it in the field, but the extra weight is not something to worry about. Guaranteed the time i leave it out ,well, lets not even think about it!
Cheers, Cam

Same as Jason, a few pressure bandages and wound dressings (and also a dedicated snake bite kit in its own red bag) in my bag and a comprehensive kit back at camp. I used to do a lot of activities in wilderness areas and so my GP taught me how to stich a wound (used my misses as an example  ) and I also have suture kits in the first aid kit. Unfortunately for my wife I didn«ÉŸt need any surgery so she missed out on the lesson.

A couple of triangle bandages, some elastic bandages, a roll of elastoplast, some sutures, tweesers, scissors, alcohol swabs, Betadine, Panadol and mirror.
Seems like everybody basically carries the same stuff, the only different gear in my kit is antiseptic cream and burn cream in the camp kit. Believe it or not the best burn cream I've come across is rectinol, has all the same base as normal burn creams with the advantage of a local anaesthetic. This'll get replies  :D

I believe you spider, if it is mild enough to rub on your freckle it ought not trouble a burned finger too much :D
Or you could buy Paxyl cream which is a pain killer but doesn't contain steroids like rectinol. I find the Paxyl excelent on those bull ant bites on the toes when I am hunting barefoot.

LOL cracked me up. [/quote]
LMAO Jindy
I carry basically the same gear, as well as sutures I carry a staple gun, its much faster which gets the pain over with faster. Tampons r good for stuffing in large puntere wounds also. I think the most important items r snake bite bandages though.
Spider I like the retinol idea, will be buying some tomorrow.
Cheers
Dead right Coach, Cotton wool balls soaked in it will light a fire just abou any where
PS Don't let any off your mates catch u with tampons covered in vas though!
Rectinol???
Wot The?
I'll stick with the burn aid dressings
THEY WORK GREAT TO TAKE THE PAIN AWAY
They're water soluble and won't require a surgical scrub if you need to go to hospital - That is a definition of pain if youv'e ever seen that done!

Well it's good to see somebody bring up the tampon thing. If you have a deep wound (arrow) or something like that, tampons will work a treat.
My frist aid kit is the same as above, but i have a tampons.
I carry everything in a 6inch x 4inch x 1.5inch deep plastic kit, which is carried in my webbing.
It includes elastic gauze bandage, disposable black monofilament nylon suture needle and thread, approx 10 various elastoplast, 2 x "burn Aid" burn gel sachets 3.5 grams, 1 x lemsip decongestant paracetamol drink powder, 1 x 25gram tube of "soov" gel, 1 x single LED mini torch, 3 x butterfly wound closure strips, 2 x povidone-Iodine U.S.P prep pad, 8 x Ibufrofen tabs, 4 x Mylanta tabs, 2 x telfast tabs and 2 x Phernergan anti histamine tabs, 4 x diarrhoea tabs, 1 x Aspalgin tab.
I like the look of the Israeli military bandages, they have a plastic clip which helps you put the bandage on using a single hand, not 2. I have tried putting one on, in a demo, and they are very much easier than a normal 2 hands type way of using a bandage. Plus they come pre packed in it's own water proof, and sterile pack, which is torn open for usage.

Haven't seen this thread near the top for a while! I just couldn't help commenting this time. I'm an intensive care paramedic, so I guess I consider this topic sort of within my range of expertise. When hunting or fishing, I carry 2 6" roller bandages and a small wad of gauze. That is the correct dressing for a snakebite, and will be enough to control external bleeding from any kind of wound you are likely to sustain. Internal bleeding from penetrating wounds requires surgery no matter what amount of cotton wool (or tampons) you stick on it.
Seems like a lot of guys are carrying enough first aid stuff to support an armed uprising.
