It was Friday afternoon and I had the boat hooked up ready to chase some dinner plate sized yellas from Windemere when the weather turned to Sh*^, so I thought I'd ring and see if there had been any Chittal activity on a property i have access to. The reply was the owner had spotted two mobs on Thursday one with 15 and the other about twenty when he was catching goats. So off with the boat and in with the hunting gear and I was off hunting chittal instead.

Arriving at the property about midnight(after ensuring the beer was still OK at the local) I laid out my swag and tried to go to sleep thinking of what might be tommorrow. I was up and scouting the area where the deer had been by 5.00am feeling very confident that I would finally get my Chittal Stag. The first tank i came to was covered in deer tracks that were maybe a few days old and some good pig wallows and rippings that were also a couple of days old(earlier in the week temps got into the thirties but now low twenties), I left the tank and made my way along a drain to some higher ground where i came across an area of thick malley that was covered in rubs, (I mean covered, in a hundred square mtr area there would be 50-80 trees that had been rubbed and ulike most rubs i have seen a lot of them where on diagonal branches about 8" in diameter), but no deer to be found. Another area I found amonst some cypress pines also had a number of fresh rubs but nothing like on the malley ridge.

Unfortunately I suffered a foot injury and had to call it a day and was making my way slowly back to the car when I came across an area covered in pig scat some of which was the size of beer cans that was so fresh it was covered in flys an still soft. I spent about an hour searching under the wilga trees as I new there must be a large mob of pigs bedded down somewhere nearby but the grass in this area was up to two foot high which made it difficult to see anything. The foot by this stage was really giving me some so i had to give up.
Sunday morning went out again but the foot was too sore and called it quits and thought I would drive around and mark a few spots on the gps I got out at a tank and marked it got back in the car and drove around the other side of the tank and a small boar jumped out from behind a log not ten mtrs from the car, i quickly turned off the car and the pig just stood there and stared, twenty minutes later (and it even had a crap while it was watching the car)it started to feed and I snuck out of the car and arrowed him through the chest but didnĂ*t get a complete pass-through the broadhead was protruding 6 inches out his far shoulder, he jumped squeeled and spun around in one motion before running 10 mtrs and collapsed falling over breaking the arrow, he got to his feet and with a second wind ran another 50 mtrs into some scrub. I collected the remains of my arrow which showed clearly it was a good lung shot as the bubbly blood was all over the arrow back to the car and went to look for the boar. Less then fifty mtrs away from where I thought the boar would be was a large sow, which I stalked into 10 mtrs she was broadside to me and I let fly a outback tipped whitetail and arrowed her low through the chest. She jumped and ran about 15 mtrs stopped and turned to see what happened and the blood was pumping from her chest in a stream about the size of a pencil, she was still quite mobile and took off at a fast trot for a hundred yards or so and rested under a malley tree, I was waiting for her to go down when a slip about a foot high give itself away by standing up not 15 mtrs from me so another arrow into the chest he dropped on the spot. I went over to the sow but she decided she had plenty of life left and took off again so I followed her again until she once again stopped for a rest and it took another two arrows to dispatch her(she was a good sow about 50-60kgs). Because this all happen by stumbling across the small boar while I was in the car I left my camera and everything back at the car so on the way back to the car to get the camera I spotted another small slip which I arrowed high through the front of the chest and she dropped on the spot. I made my way back to the car and got the camera and went looking for the first boar which I couldnĂ*t find anywhere, after about an hour I decided to give up and go and take some pics of the sow after which I had another search for the boar but no luck. The scrub was just too thick and the grass too long.
Even though I missed out on a deer once again it ended aup being a great weekend with three pigs even though I lost the boar.
Best thing is in a couple of weeks when the temps rise this place is really gunna get good.
