View Full Version : Foxes
Hoping to go after some foxes at easter and was after any tips you can offer for whistling foxes. :?:
Thanks heaps
Wellsy
My best tips for Fox whistling are draw when there not looking at you or at a distance if your set up allows you to hold for a while. Grawl at them to pull em up at shooting distance. Only turn you head while whistling as a fox may by close by and watching you. You can generally tell a good shot on a fox if they run with there tail in the air or don't run at all.
I squeak most of my foxes in by sucking on the whistle or on 2 fingers in my mouth. But the old tin whistle works a charm. Adam

have not done it b4 , but would say get to know the distances aroung the area you are whisteling , for example , the tree to your left is 13m away.

and make sure you are standing with something solid right behind you, preferably a bush or shrub to break up your outline. and being on a hill overlooking the area you think the fox may come from is good cause you can see them well before hand and get ready for the shot.
ive found from the foxes ive whistled that they have responded to the whistle and been in shooting range within 20-30 seconds max.
ive been told that it could be up to 10-15 minutes before one may come in but thats never happened to me yet.

C'mon boys...I just see it as passing on what's been learnt elsewhere....does it really matter if it was only five minutes beforehand?

well i will say that i wouldn't ever blow for 15 full seconds on the whistle, then wait for 30.
the longer you blow the more chance the fox has of seeing exactly where it came from, meaning that it will most likely spot you.
i blow in bursts of 3-4 seconds then wait about a minute. but ive found if i haven't seen one within a minute i aint gonna see one.

Humphrey I have whistled many a fox in and been surprised quite a few times to.I just use the olde button whistle,I have 2 of them and they are both about 30 years old.Still work as good as the day I bought them.
Remember one of the 1st times I used it,sat down in front of big,old dead tree with my camo on and blew that whistle and sucked on that whistle and blew some more. After about 5 minutes with nothing moving towards me,got up in utter disgust and walked around behind the tree,lo and behold there was 4 young foxes sitting about 25 yards away wondering what all the racket was about.I had a Mossberg 8 shot pump action shotgun but didn't even shoot at them I was that amazed.

Even when you have finished whistling at a certain location and haven't had a fox come in, wait a couple of minutes before moving onto the next location, sometimes it does take foxes a long time to come in, particularly if they are coming from a long way away.. Sometimes it's even a matter of you not seeing the fox because it's behind you or the likes, but if you remain on guard you can give yourself a crack instead of scaring it off..
look coach,
i think you better just watch what you say because i know i asked for help on fox whistling. about the only thing i knew was to blow for 15 seconds and wait for 30 seconds i thought i should share that but obviously you couldn't see that and i just wanted more help from people that might know a thing or two.
at least a appology would be nice but i won't be expecting one.
