Great piece Jindy, How long did it take to make and what steel did you use?

All up 6 hours in 3 x 2 hour shifts. It costs me a great deal of pain when I make the knives so I have to do it in spurts.
The steel is L6 from a big old saw blade a friend dropped off last week.
I don't have the machine to test the rockwell of the blade after heat treat, but a steel wont touch it, and from the temps I used to temper it I estimate it is at least 60Rc for the edge. The spine is much softer because I only quenched the edge.
Top job Mick, very impressive :D

Might I be so bold as to ask why it causes you pain to make knives?

I had a accident back in '96 and I have a fractured vertebrae in my lower spine and nerve damage in my neck. People here who have hunted with me will have noticed how slow to move I can get after a while. :(
Holding the blade against the grinder causes the nerves in my neck to get very cranky, and if I over do it I get to do nothing fun for a long time. It is only through intensive therapy and force of will that I get to do many of the things that I love.
An upside to it is that I have introduced quite a few people to deer hunting since my accident. I need people to carry the carcass
That sux, mate.
Good on ya for not letting it detir you from your passions.
Luke
Great work there Jindy but having seen a few of your other knives I would expect nothing less.. And as for being slow I do recall a certain hill we clambered up and I'm not too sure who was the worst for ware/wear/where???....
Regards...Sparra

I hear you on this point, I to have lower back and nerve problems from an car accident 8yrs ago and have the same problem of not being able to do things for to long a period of time.
But as stuborn as I am I still do things sometimes that I know I'll suffer for later, but hey why stop just cause the docs say you shouldn't.
Besides don't they say "perfection takes time" :D
