I cant really bowfish around my place but i love fishing with a rod. i caught a buet bream today it was 40 cm
Is it true that in SA you are only allowed to hunt in inland waters? Becuase i only found that out a while ago and i have been bowfishing in the sea before and nailed a good ray. i wont post it unless it is legal..

no fishing
I agree with you on not posting it on here when it was shot where your not ment to bowfish . i think thats where the little white lie's come into it or just keep it to yourself. i only did it once and then found out it was illegal here so i wont continue to do so. Its like one of those spots where you really shouldnt be bowhunting on but if you know the right people you can get permission  but you would never say you were hunting there if someone asked.

Before you fall so far off your high horse coach, have a read on what you said you would do if the government banned bowhunting....
If you want to preach about the law, don't be hypocritical.
I have also spoken to fisheries officers before about shooting carp (notice i didn't say that i have shot carp) and they were all for the idea, provided it is not in public. So a little common sense comes into play, i wouldn't shoot a pig in front of a bus load of school kids, apply the same to carp.

The shear fact of culling carp may even weigh favourably with the "anti's" that follow us around watching our every action and hear every word we say
I have been monitoring this thread CLOSELY over the past few days and feel I need to say that regardless of opinion on whether or not carp should be shot, the fact that they are a noxious fish and the damage that we all agree they cause our fragile watherways and ecosystems...SHOOTING CARP IN INLAND WATERS IS ILLEGAL (with the exception of in South Austrlia).
Therefore, discussion of any such illegal activities on this forum is not condoned nor permitted and as such Coach has full backing of Admin to remove, delete, or edit any posts containing aforementioned activities or photographs or images of such.
Please re read the conditions of participation and membership you agreed to when registering as a member of this forum before you direct PM's or emails to any member of the management team regarding this matter.
I thank you for your cooperation.

Coach we have edited as much as we can and My girl has removed the pic of her fish.
I apologise for being a smart ^&$@ and as you say it is dumb to do what I did.
One thing I will do though is check with the fisheries department on Monday and see if they do have a definite law about taking these fish with a bow.

Isn't it terrible that it comes to this eh?
Just this week I was reading my latest copy of New Zealand Geographic and there is a big story about Nortcoms mates having a big carp shooting comp'. There are real strict rules over there on what fish can be taken and where, and yet they managed to get the powers that be to sanction bowfishing as a legitimate control method for carp.
As long as we hide our bushel under a bush we will never get the authorities here to do the same.
Thanks to Danielle and Barebow for their response to the request of the Management Team.
Jindy, a very valid point...however the discussion of what is NOW illegal activity and the hypothetical debate and suggestion of an effective way of helping to minimise carp numbers are two completely different things.
Feel free to discuss how we might go about having the law changed in regards to this, by all means. I for one would love to see it changed. It remains however that discussion of illegal activity (of any nature) will not be permitted on these forums.
again, thanks for your understading in this matter.

I know it may seem like I am labouring the point, but how do we discuss the use of bow fishing as a management tool if we canÃ*t discuss bow fishing.
Is my last sentence even allowed now that you have told us ìIt remains however that discussion of illegal activity (of any nature) will not be permitted on these forums.î
It seems ironic that the only way we can show we can be responsible and bowfish without killing native (or protected) fish is to actually bowfish.
I just finished making up two new fishing arrows last night, and I am right proud of the job I did too.
Oops is that allowed???
And what about the people who do bowfish and ask for help to set up their gear so they donÃ*t loose an eye? Are you removing the posts we put up on that also?
If you are going to draw a line in the sand (and I can understand you donÃ*t want to condone, or be seen condoning illegal activities) can you be clearer about your definition of ìdiscussî? If I were to take your last post literally then we would be breaking the rules if we were to have a thread about how poachers are bad for bow hunting, because we would by your definition be discussing poaching (an illegal activity).
And why is this even an issue now? We have been posting about bow fishing here since the forum started.
