Well it was Friday arvo and i said to dad about how it had rained and we couldn’t reap then asked if i could go hunting on Saturday. I got the nod and i sent Questions a message and he said he would have to be home by 12:30 because he had to play cricket. I then rang eggs and asked him if he was keen, he sure was. I was getting up at 4:15am picking eggs up at 5 and meeting questions there at 5:30.
We finally got there and started our walk over the flat country towards the hills. we could see a heap of goats coming into the water so we got into the creek and let them feed towards us. All was going to plan when a billy about 29" spotted us and took about 30 goatrs with him. there were more goats feeding to our left so we snuck back around and eggs spotted a billy feeding in a bush. Questions was stalking in and i was right behind him on the video camera. He drew back just before he walked out the bush then smack double lung shot and the billy only ran about 30m. He was a really old goat and had both horns broken but was still about 25". Here he is.

We could see goats all feeding out in the flats so he headed for them. We came across a pretty good mob of goats but they saw us and took off. Eggs took off up the hill after them so questions and me went for a look for some other goats. We just didn’t have the luck though because every mob that feed towards us had the big billies at the back and the small ones got to 10m and just sat there snorting until the mob took off. Even though it was a rush just getting close and getting some video footage.
About 20 mins later and Eggs came back down off his mountain and had a few goat legs in his pack. He had shot 2 young nannies and taken the back legs off both. (no photo's)
It was about 9:30 at this stage and as we were walking along the creek we found a couple of nannies feeding out in the open with practically no cover. I wanted to take some meat home so i got on my knees and started to stalk them. i got within 30m really easily with only having them look at be for about 20 seconds once. I wasn’t game to push my luck any further and took the shot from 30. It was a perfect passthrough through the heart and she only made it 20m. We then hung her in a tree and dressed her and put it in a meat back to hang it in the shade. I didn’t worry about getting pics.
Questions said he had to leave us so he started his walk back to his car while me and eggs still had the rest of the day to play with. It wasn’t long after we had left Questions when we had a good mob of billies walking straight towards us. The smallest billy in the mob was about 27" and the biggest would have been 30 so they all looked about the same. They walked up and looked at us from about 7m but i wanted the bigger one so held off shooting. But the goats didn’t see us as bushes and took off they propped and eggs put a pretty good shot on a billy taking out one lung. He followed his goat so i decided to look for some others.
I walked up a gully to look over and see some billies standing on some big rocks about half way up a small hill. So i stalked up the side of the hill very quietly like an elephant with the slate rock everywhere. and got to where they were to see them jogging off in the opposite direction the back billy propped at 20m and i angled a shot from between his last rib and his back leg through and out the front opposite shoulder. He went nowhere. He was right on 25"
Here he is (self timed photo)

There were goats everywhere and since there was no sign of Eggs i started to walk up a massive hill that i could see a mob of big billies on. I got up the top and sat on the cliff edge looking down at the view because the goats had disappeared. Then i heard a very low bleet/groan not far from me and i knew the billies were close. I backed up a bit and came down looking down he cliff and saw them there. In could only see about 7 of them. But i slowly rock climbed down the cliff with all my gear until i was only 5m above them. But for the life of me i couldn’t figure out which one to shoot they were all ebout exactly the same size! I just figured i would go for the one giving the best shot. So i drew back lined him up then thought i might be able to get this on camera. so i let down and grabbed the tripod and camera off my back and set it up on the goat i was planning to shoot, then picked up my bow again and the arrow fell off the string and bounced allong the rocks and landed in between the goats below me. The goats looked at the arrow then back out into the wind again. How lucky was i. So i grabbed another arrow and Drilled the goat i was intending and took out both lungs. I watched the mob run off and there was a good 30+ inch billy in there that i couldn’t see. Ahh well next time. Here's the goat. he went 28"

I walked back off my mountain and into the gully and gave a few whistles listened and walked along and i did this about every hundred meters. the goats didn’t know what to think of my noise as they sat and stared at me walk past. But i heard a whistle in the distance si i walked in that direction and found eggs. His billy had made it about another 5 km after he had shot it and he lost it in the thick scrub. After a big search he still didn’t find it. His arrow fell out and he got that back but he wasn’t happy about loosing the goat.
We thought it had been a pretty long day so we started walking back out and came across some goats. We put in a rushed stalk because there wasn’t anything big there and eggs drilled a young billy and he needed another one to put him down for keeps.

We took the meat and a photo then walked the 5km back to the car. Which is a bit of a struggle carrying a dressed goat. All in all it was a good day and i got heaps of footage of pretty decent goats. I will get some more pics off my video footage today if people want. It was good to get out into the hills again.
