How far from the end of the shaft do you guys start your fletching? and does it really play a magor roll in the flyte of the arrow??????

I remember talking to a member of the Australian crossbow team and she had her fletchings set at all different distances away from the end of the bolt, each arrow had one fletch starting at 20mm and then the next at 40mm and tha last at 50mm from the end of the bolt and she said that it gave them better flyte. ???????????????

Any ideas guys

I am currently fletching mine at 16mm from the end of the shaft only.

I had to move mine back towards the nock cause I had a short brace hight and was useing 5" vanes it worked so I haven't changed it now that I have a longer brace

I look at it like a long armed rudder it gives the tail end of the arrow more leverage to keep it pointed in the right direction with broadheads on the front.

it measures in at just under 3 cm from back of vane to nock grove

I like the fletching to e as far back to nock as possible. I have found that when the fletching is down the shaft it is hard to get good arrow flight...Glenn...

Thanks guys I had the thought that the further back the better anyway.
from back of vanes to nock groove is 28mm I had them set at this distance from when I was shooting fingers and have maintained that distance while using the release.

It depends on the angle of your string at full draw and how big your fletches are. The closer the fletch to the nock end of the arrow, the more stable the flight. Too far back and you'll get interference from the string or your fingers.
