A few of us went hunting on the weekend. Unfortunately the storms on Friday wet down the whole area
and made finding the animals a bit hard. We didn’t get any clear views of deer, just fleeting glimpses of
what “could” have been deer, and we only found a couple of mobs of pigs. I had a great stalk up on some
pigs bedded down under a pepper tree. There were 5 adults and over a dozen slips and I got to within 10
metres before someone let out a small grunt and they all jumped up and ran about 30 metres into some
small cyprus pines. I moved up closer and just stood still and the pigs tried to move back into their beds but
wouldn’t quite come out of the scrub so I could get a clear shot. We stood off like this for almost 10
minutes and eventually the pigs just moved off through the scrub and I lost them.

We saw lots of great birds and other wildlife
this guy was living under the house we camped in

and this guy was raiding bird nests on the side of the road

Found some great sign and I am sure that given a few weeks to dry up all the small waterholes
this place would provide some great hunting.
Have a look at these tusk marks

The road I took to visit some friends while I was up there

And the view out my windscreen late on Sunday night as I neared home
after 11 hours on the road

All in all, even if I didn't even fire a shot, I had a great time hunting with Jeff and Fenn again
and I am glad I made the effort to get up there.
Thanks for the invite wellsy :D

Good onya Jindy! It good to see you getting out and about. Better than vegetating in front on the TV/computer.

As we both know, you don't have to be successful to have a successful hunt.

I went for a quick hunt last night after rabbits near home. I was swooped by a hawk. I've never had that happen before. It swooped me time and again. It had a rat in it's talons while it was doing it. I must have been too close to it's nest.

Then later on while I was sneaking along an old sheep track through long grass, ever mindful of snakes, something whanged into the back of my legs. It was the stupidest rabbit in the paddock. It can't have seen me. I had to clean out my undies after that one. Later I managed to bag a different rabbit with a Judo.

What I'm trying to say is, even though you might hunt and not even see game, but you are almost certain to see unusual and interesting things. Best of all, it's all real. It's a unique experience. 8)

I found this scrape on Sunday morning. I am sure that if we spent a week there instead of just a couple of days we would have had a great chance of getting the buck that made it.

Good onya mate, just being out there is what it is all about.

I wonder how many times I have been out hunting and have never loosed an arrow but every hunt was something worth remembering.

I have just been lucky lately or the rabbits are getting dumber.Had one yesterday I shot at and I pierced its ears,it hopped about 10 metres towards me and stopped again, shot another arrow at it and shot over it's back so it hopped another couple of metres towards me,was only about 8 steps away from me this time it was pure unlucky. Finally nailed it with the 3rd shot, one unlucky rabbit.

Coach you wait till you step on a pig one day,you will never forget the noise and the dirty undies.

Or your mate arrows a monster boar in high cane grass and yells out 'HE'S COMING YOUR WAY" and you meet 150kg arrowed boar on the path your standing on with nowhere to run.Talk about adrenaline.

 ROFLMAO-

Reminds me of a trip to Charleville mid 1990's with 2 blokes who happened to be cousins and both have a rather devious nature. One of them can immitate any animal noise that has ever been made in the Australian bush.Anyway it started out with small practical jokes and by the 3rd day it was full on to see who could outdo each other.

No names given as I still value the rest of my life.... :) Anyway one of them had shot a ripper record class goat real late in the arvo and had taken a couple of photos but left the animal intact. He was gone before we had got out of bed at daylight but had made a point of telling his cousin about the huge horned goats in the area he had been in the day before.

Anyway we both headed over to this area and we hear the sound of billies bellowing like they are rutting,so we close in on the noise.I had already taken a couple of record class and trophy class goats so I told my mate to go and have a go at them.We both spotted this huge white goat from about 100 metres away and he stalks into about 30 metres and drills it,it bellows and carries on as if mortily wounded but doesn't move so it gets another arrow in the same spot with the same results,so he lets go with the 3rd arrow and by this time I have twigged to what is going on and start laughing my head off.He looks back at me,looks at the goat, starts muttering murderous thoughts and the last I saw of his cousin till after dark was a body trotting away through the scrub.

His cousin had positioned the goat so it would stand up in a patch of black wattle and until he had pinned it with the 2nd arrow it looked like it was alive especially with all the noise his cousin was making behind a tree just to the side of it.I won't say what the retribution was to this one but I can assure you it was a ripper.

That was a top stalk aye Mick? I'm sure it would've been a great photo as the billy hadent seen/wasnt watching him! Sounds like you guys had a ball. Where abouts was it? Would love to see more pics if you have any.

Mick smith said "you dont have to be succesful to have a successful hunt"
Couldnt agree more, my hunt out at Cams was not productive for me in the game department but it was such an awesome experince to be out there, getting to see billy's etc in the bush is such a rush! Even tho i didnt arrow one it was a top weekend and learnt a lot.

Cheers Paul
