View Full Version : Self destructing bows

Well today at the club proved to be a painfull and expensive one for a couple of people.
One guy had his riser of his compound snap in two at full draw and the top half of the bow swung around the back of his head and left a big nasty gash in the other side of his neck.  but he is ok now.

And my top limb decided to start spitting splinters of glass at me
So now I've got to find a way to come up with some cash to get a new bow, and am very reluctant to use it now incase it decides to explode in my face at full draw.

So do you guys think that it would be at all worth trying to find a new limb(s) or not bother???????
My bow is a 2002 Hoyt Magnatec with the solid Intruder limbs. the rest of the bow (riser) looks to be fine it's just the limb thats shat it's self. Would the cost of a new set of limbs be much?????

And my top limb decided to start spitting splinters of glass at me

Time for a longbow matey.

My favourite longbow was made by a fellow in Ballarat. It is 35 years old! I have killed heaps of animals with this bow during the last year.

The bowyer is dead now but his magnificent bows keep on keeping on!

Makes those compounds look like the TOTAL pieces of crap that they are.

Thankyou United States of America for your EXPENSIVE rubbish!!!

Haahahahahhahaaa...

hahahaha.. .oh coach.. i was waiting for one of you buggers to dob me in.. hahahahahhaha

because i have been too busy with work to hunt the fallow... i have decided to stick with the longbow..

those bloody compounds are always sitting there calling to me... "C'mon Mick.. you know you LOVE that trigger plus peep sight..... come and kill kill KILL with us.. "

I ADMIT I was gonna buy Mozza's/Adam's old compound bow to whack a Fallow deer with.. BUT.. too busy to get out every day so my TRRRRRADITIONAL nature has kept me true.. ehehheheheee...

Coach I got this mutt from the pound when it was 6 months old and was in great condition.

Tracker I have the curve but would like to add a long bow to the collection one day soon.

But I still love the wheelie bows.

I think that for the hassle and $$$ to find and then replace the limbs I may as well invest in a new toy. But as you all know it's just a matter of finding those funds.

I have been looking at some bows and found a couple that I like.
in no particular order

Mathews Switchback/Outback
Hoyt Ultratec
Bowtech of some description not sure which one yet

But if funds don't allow for that much expenditure
I'll look at the cheaper Hoyts/Reflex/Martin bows

The best thing is that I have the wifes backing to get a new bow :D
But when that will be who knows  sooner rather then later I hope.

ROFLMAO

I went and found out today that I can get replacement limbs for $220 which is good but I have to wait for up to 6 weeks to get them
But am still considering a new bow. Just have to suck up to the minister of finances.

Now Coach that was kinda obviouse even to an idiot like myself.
Was looking at the reflex range as they are a Hoyt in disquise and a fair bit cheaper to. But it all depends on how much$$$ iI have at buying time.

At the moment I think my budget will be some where between $600 - $800 maybe more. Just have to find where I stashed all that cash. ahhhh thats right I bought a house.

just like to add my 2 cents in on PSE. I have had 4 PSE bows all still going never had a problem with them and the people who have them now still shoot them. I have owned a 2 hoyts that exploded one riser 1 limbs 1 golden eagle that went through 3 sets of limbs in a year. I would try bowtech if i have not heard a bad word yet, YET and that is what i will be buying next time i hope. Do not write off PSE i have a single cam 70# and it is whisper quite and i have shot a lot of game with it and it is sweet shooting. It was only $700 bucks brand new.

Archery Mart have a couple of Bowtechs at the moment will go and see what models and how much they are today.

Jeff they have a few of the 2003 models that are still brandspankers new and with warrenty as follows

Tech29, 60# at 27"
$795

TomKat 60# at 30" with Bowtech 8 arrow quiver
$750

MightyMite 60# at 29" with 3 pin fibre optic sight (bowtech I assume)
$750

all are single cam and have an inch draw adjustment either side of the above measurements. And all in camo. Tomkat has rubber handle others have the wood hand

They are not going to be stocking them all the time these were just left overs from somewhere. So once sold that is it.

hope this helps

I liked the MM and the tech29 but seeing as I have a 29" draw teh tech is out for me.

Hey Jason, just kidding there mate. Some of the older PSE's were a bit iffy but these new ones are pretty good.
I had a golden eagle that kept blowing up. The last time I was at a shoot at Lake Glenbawn near scone. Damn thing blew up at full draw! Ripped a peice out of my metal watch band and flung it across the paddock. But with all the strings and cables going every which way I came out unscathed, never left a mark on me. Scared the bejeevers outa me though!

I've heard good things about the AR's, particularly the 34. I didn't realise that PSE made them.

gotta love those compounds eh!! Was at Archery Mart the other day and took a look at Johns $1500 compound, and had to give him a ribbing as they sell longbows there for about $280. I have one that I over draw big time and have shot everything from ultralight carbons to 1000 grain hardwoods out of it and never even a whimper.

All that extra cash could be spent on your next holiday!

just think of it this way .

carbon arrows = compound bow
wood/alloy arrows = trad bow

new with new
old with old

just a thought
