View Full Version : "AxePress" Small Game Head
Had a fiddle, made a couple of these, tested in long grass, dirt & into a tree, work every bit as good as Judo Points re tumbling. Will hopefully get a chance at a rabbit or two later
Should add, fly as accurately as a field point
Made 'em 150grn, using 3/8" rod, 2 x 3/32" x 2" split dowels

Well done mate, hopefully they will work as good as they look

Another piece of Aussie creativity, well done Axe. Gave me a few ideas
Cheers Grunter
Alteration- following 8 shots into a tree one of the split dowels capitulated, (which was what I feared/expected), could have blunted the head to avoid penetration up to the dowels...instead have changed them for masonary nails, 20 odd shots later, same tree, still going strong
yep - that certainly looks up to the job. good stuff mate.
i've seen others along the same lines, but with a store-bought field point, and the rod holes drilled through the sides. the ones you made look better though IMO, and i bet they're cheaper. time to visit the bunnies hey? :D
How far into production are you Axe, when will you be able to start taking orders :D
Good job, Dave.
Well they work :D Since first post have used them & taken
Two hares, both chest shots, the longest shot 18m, both dead on the spot
Two foxes, one back of head at 8m, one in the chest at 15m, head shot dead on spot & other one went about 10m
This arvo, one cat & two rabbits all chest shot from 10 to 20m, all cactus where hit
Only penetration was the 1/2" in front of the "X"
Nothing like 700 grn arrow from a 69# bow, to slow up the small game
Lesson here for those that think it's ok to use blunts to practice on live larger game, "because it don't hurt 'em", think again, if it can kill a fox shot in the chest at 15m, it will certainly cause injury to larger game causing unnecessary suffering
bloody hell mate thats impressive - good going :D
Yeah Brian was ok, should have added that while this worked out ok, to hunt foxes I believe the use of b/heads is the correct thing to do, & is something I would recommend, something I have done to date & will continue to do from here on in :)
