View Full Version : B/head & Vanes pics
I was not sure which thread to add this to so I started a new one.
The pics are of some new arrows I am working on at the moment.
People have always said you need 12" of vanes but I have done well
with 2" blazers so I why not try the 1 1/2" mini blazers.
Yes I know what you guys are all saying"Bet they wont shoot B/heads"
but in the pic the arrows with the bigger vane are field tips and the yellow
arrows are with supreme b/heads and as you can see this group is what you could call hunting accuracy. This group was shot at 25 mtrs and I have more testing to do but I think this shows what you can do if you have good arrow flight.Just to to cover the other details I shoot a
Switchback at 70 pound and use a W/biscuit rest and a stinger release aid.The shafts are C/T whitetails and I have some other Carbon Expess
shafts to try which are .002 in tolerance so these should shoot very nice when I get them all sorted. The vanes weigh 14.6 grains for 4 1.5" 22.4 grains for 4 2" and 34.8 grains for 3 4" vanes so it is a big weight diff.

Good testing there Kim...Have you tried with just 3 x 1.5 vanes???Did you get my message about the Equis???
Regards...Sparra
Thanks for that kimal.
Hey sparra, a mate got a equus I was shooting it yesterday, bloody awesome bow for the price, no stack out to 29inches for me.
Anyway back on topic,
Adam
Just got back from the range and can say even in the strongest wind I think I have shot in they performed very nice out to 50 mtrs.At times I could put my hand around the group of four arrows to pull them in one go.
This was with field tips only but I still think I will go this way on my new arrows.

Kimall,
It was your doing that I tried 4 2" Blazers, now you could not change my mind any other way especially with the WB !
Still haven't got around to testing them over 30m but at 30m it would become very expensive shooting groups with Supremes.
I have just tweaked up some Whitetails with 4 1.5s but haven't shot them as yet !
And this Arvo I am fletching up some CT 400 Cheetah Pro with 4" X vanes for 3D.
id love to use Blazers for 3D but the 12" rule must be adhered to ! (Thinking of MBO just so as I can use the Blazers)

Mind you I am still addicted to these also for hunting !

For 3DAAA. Hunter Class, you need 4"vanes,regardless of the number.

Coach,
What's the Advantage in shooting MBO / MBR verses Champ class etc ?
I thought Hunter Class may have more competitors etc ?
Dunno quite what do shoot only got like 7 weeks to make up my Mind !
Any input from anyone would be great ! do teams have to be both in the same class also ?

There's something in the air about hunter class this year,I'm just waiting to see what it is.
Up until now Hunter Class, had some restrictions ie:- 4" fletches, screw in points,12" stabiliser or less, pin sights or a single pin on a slide sight. and the max. distance was 40yds.
MBR .you have to use pin sights, but you can use any size fletches, any stabiliser, glue in or screw in points distance 50yds.
MBO you can use any of the above or a scope sight.distance 50yds.
Champion Div.all of the above, but you shoot for money not a trophy.and you got to make sure your poo doesn't smell :D there could be some changes this year.
Teams don't have to be in the same class.
Kimall also put me on to the Blazers and the Biscuit.
This is the result of changing over to 4 2" Blazers. The top 2 are Epic 400 @ 28" and the bottom 3 are Epic 340 @ 28".
Distance was 22 metres.

What distance are you shooting Dave?
Wareagle
02-01-06, 09:34 PM
pin sights or a single pin on a slide sight. and the max. distance was 40yds.
I was under the impression that an ADJUSTABLE sight put you in MBO :?
In IBO in the U.S it does.but not here, most H/C shooters use a Cobra slide or a HHA slide.
What distance are you shooting Dave?
22 metres Wareagle. My pin is set for 25 but the missus had the sprinkler going and I didn't want to get wet :?

Well I guess that Answers my Question as to what class to shoot Now !?
No wonder they are cracking 320fps even with 60gr, your right coach who uses 60gr broadheads anywhere really ? A min of 85gr would have made more sense !
As I said on AF I'm not travelling 3400k round trip to shoot in a class that basically means nothing now !
And as My pooh does stink I don't think I'll go play with the rich kids either !
I spent ages getting my Outback set up for Hunter class in the thought it might be the best class to shoot for both a bit of fun and competitively too !
So thanks 3D 7 weeks before the first Qld round I have to change set up !
Don't you shoot champ Wareagle ?

Sorry wareagle for some reason I picked up you shot Champ somewhere !
So what you going to Shoot now then ? MBO !? for 2006 ?
I am kind shattered I built up all my arrows And my bow especially for HC, thinking it would be the best for my first full year shooting 3D, then they go and pull this rubbish....!
So what would now happen to teams ? I guess they both have to shoot the same class or MBR/MBO ?
I was confused enough before but now

Kimall, with that setup you will have to shoot MBR or MBO , unless your over 50yrs.old than you could shoot MSR. change the fletches to 4" than you could shoot H/C {3DAAA]
Willy_R, I probably will shoot MBO,just for an outing with my friends, but I've lost the will to compete.
I find it hard to believe that 3 or 4 committee members can change the whole format , without putting it to a club meeting, to be discussed and voted on.
Is it better to fletch carbons straight or with a helical twist if you put them through a biscuit? I have 4" and 5" (A bit bigger then Kim's) What would be the better choice for broadheads ? Are there restrictions on vane sizes in ABA?
Cheers Tim

G'day Pat !
From What I gather Hunter class is now Aussie hunter class ? or something along those lines.
But it is no longer a competitive class for SOY or top ten etc now, I had set my Outback up specifically for Hunter class 12 Doinker 4" vanes etc blah blah.
Well Derek ( Illusion _05) and I are going to attend all the northern rounds next year as a team and individuals which means a 3400k round trip give or take each time ( About 10 times if count the State of Origine and Nationals etc)
So we will now be Shooting MBO and MBR instead which means I'm just going to get serious instead.
Now I'm even thinking along the Lines of a Apex 7 ! if I'm going to play with the Big kids best kit up I guess !
I would have been happy to just mess about in Hunter class but for the team effort I have to shoot in a Competitive class now !
Derek is very cool competitor infact he is off in Sydney at the Commonwealth Clay target titles in Sydney and the Nationals of which he came 7th out of 96 in the Commonwealth Titles and is currently 3rd in the Nationals.
( Derek has done no lead up training for this he is basically escorting an Overseas competitor as an interpreter and decided to shoot at the last minute 2 weeks before hand)
And he's even better with a Bow !! picked one up about 18 months ago and he's a natural !!
Well sorry about the long reply ranting busy day head full of things to say :D
cheers

Well I would buy a Conquest Apex but apparently My Pooh stinks to much to shoot Champ class !!

Hi
While looking parts for my Jig so I could put on 4 vanes (2 inch blazer's) in stead of 3 like most of the photos in this topic, (as a learning I will to try anything that will help me). When I spoke to Abbey Archery the told me the carbons/ 60# plus bow, that 3 x 2inch Blazers vanes are better than 4? . They said 4 is slower and makes more noise. So what does everyone think 3 or 4
Mate we need a bit more info.
Bow
Rest
Fletching jig.
Let us know and I will give you my thoughts on it.

Aren't your heads and vanes getting wrecked there Pete?
Lucky I was a little bit off....! 8)
Normally like most here don’t shoot groups, but a was trying the 3d headnet to seeing if throw my consistency off, looks like it doesn’t as I don’t normally don’t use the 3D one but a thinner and lighter headnet.
