OUT CHASING RABBITS :) :)

I have been out to this little area, about 30ks from Shepparton, which has some rabbits running around, but they are a bit of a problem trying to get at before they run into cover, they are situated in an old dry creek bed,(which is right out in the open)amongst heaps & heaps of old fencing wire, old concrete slabs, old fridges, cupboards and every thing else you can imagine, even old car bodies. I have been trying this spot for over three months now, without any luck so far, but I am getting closer, I have found the rabbits always see me coming  and head to cover under the heaps of wire etc, I have set myself up in several spots hoping the little blighters will show themselves, but no luck to date, I purchased a 3D suit (my xmas present for myself) and thought this would be the go, this helped me get in amongst all the rubbish with rabbits wondering what was this!!, but I could not get into the right position to have a crack at them, as the seem to disappear under the wire and rubbish in the dry creek bed, I have waited for these bunnies (in a spot where I thought they would show) twice now, and today (2/01/2006), I thought I was on a winner, I waited amongst old car bodies, after about an hour waiting up popped one then two and when you look around further there are more and more showing themselves, but always the other side away from where I am , so no luck again tonight, but hopefully I have now worked out where to wait next time, as this area had 10 rabbits feeding about, I will give this another go later in the week, get amongst some old trees and hopefully get a shot at one, I had one rabbit pop up near me, but heaps of old fencing wire in the way of a clear shot, no doubt I could get a rabbit if I took the rifle out, but would only get one , as any movement or sound always makes the rabbits high tail it, they did not seem to see me in my 3D suit , only when I started walking back to the car, and then they were not sure what I was at first. So I will keep at it until I at least get a shot at one, and better still bag one. Will take some photos next time I am out there.

Thanks for the read ricko, I really hope you get one mate.

Im sure you know and have done a lot more rabbit hunting then me mate, But just for anyone that doesn't know. If your sitting on a rabbit warren you need to remain dead still. Rabbits under ground can here any movement on top of the warren, and a lot of the time a rabbit will be looking out he's hole when you least expect it or just plan appear in front of you. And if you spook a rabbit back down the hole it will take a lot longer for the rest to come out.

Can't wait to see some photos mate, even of the country you hunt them in.

yeah you have the right idea mate sitting and waiting produces the goods for me every time. Last time i was out there were a heap of holes under all these pushed up stumps and logs so i sat right on top of the log and had full grown rabbits right around me. i managed to reflect my arrow of a branch on the way to the target but i was still happy to get so close.

sounds like your on a winner and i cant wait for the pics like adam.

Have not seen any cats there Adam, i have even tried whistling foxes there also, but have not seen any as yet, you would think there would be cats and foxes about there. The Goulburn river is only about 1k away, plenty of good Cod fishing there.
