I started another batch of knives this week, and I thought I might try something different. I thought I would give cryotempering a go, you put the blades in the freezer for a day between the hardening and tempering stages. It is supposed to increase toughness at all hardnesses in some steels, that is it works better in some than in others.
I made up 4 blades and put them through the usual cycles but inserted the freezer step and I was reminded today that I should always do a test piece when ever I change anything.
I also ground this knife very thin and I think I should have been a bit more conservative.

My pseudo-testpiece…

Obviously this steel doesn’t think much of cryotempering. :?

hey, grind it into a half-round, and make a small skinner out of it.. Might still be useful.

Auction it ("The Razor") as is, I got a lot of knives, but not one like that :D
Probably better than a Stanley knife

I think I have a way to change the temper on it without stuffing the handle, so I might try and make something from it.

You can see better than most I expect, just how thin it is. It has the same grinds as the knife you have, but the stock is only 3mm thick rather than the 5mm of yours.

It almost makes me want to cry when I stuff up like that :(

and some-one said "dont give up your dayjob"

HA!!!

as usual jindy your efforts are awsome. i too really like these thicker-type handles, they'd certainly give a good grip when getting dirty on a carcus. once again good job mate.
