How about a dog print
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v243/jindydiver/DSC01594.jpg
And a tip.
The diff' between a dog and a fox print is on a fox you can draw a line between the two outside claw marks and the front (center) two pads will be fully in front of the line. If you look at this dog print a line between the two outer claws would desect the two front pads about a third of the way up.

Yes   we were looking to put a hole in that dog bigtime. All our activity seems to have moved him along which is the same thing to the farmer so all was good. The goats around there were a bugger to get within bow range while that dog was around, they would get moving at the slightest hint of danger and until the dog was removed from the picture I got to carry my bow up a lot of hills for precious little stalking time.
BTW that round is 60mm long and it fits in the rear pad of that print. That dog was certainly a big fellow.

A fallow rub. Do fallow stags ever rub large trees like the reds or do they just hammer the saplings because we could only find rubbed saplings this w/e.

Most Stags rub saplings along a corridor to lay their scent, but the dominant in the area will have a favorite tree he visits every year.
Find this and you will get a very good trophy.
Hey thanks for that Warlocke. we saw one good stag and 2 other average ones and the rubs were all the way along a ridge. I herd them rutting for the first time. Man it was an awesome experience. I almost got a shot on one of the younger stags but he saw me at 35m.

macca, me and a mate found this fallow rub tree last weekend, its the biggest one i have seen so far.
I will be heading back to it next year cause i recon it is a really good buck :) http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y3/amozza/Img0012.jpg
you can also see where he has been rubbing his scent gland near his eye near the base of the tree
Hey Mozza yeah I haven't found a tree of that size rubbed by a fallow before. I bet you could smell he had been there :D You can tell he has been there more than once. Hope you get him  Down the southeast I found plenty of saplings thrashed and a red deer rub( it was 2 big to possibly be a fallow) But the reds had moved out and I only saw a red hind all trip. Good hunting to you, bet ya like me and can«ÉŸt wait until next years rut!

This photo was taken after I saw a fallow buck leave the area, I have never came across deer droppings clumped together like this. What are other deer hunters thoughts on this, is it clumping because of the really green pick that was in the area.
Adam
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/bowhunting/family05east046.jpg
Adam I have seen clumping like that but not to that extent. IMO I'd say either it's been eating heaps of fresh green stuff or the animal is not well.
A bit to much green curry maybe

The **** is green because of the green pick the deer were eating, but that isn't nessasaly the reason they are stuck together. If you waited a day they might fall apart into seperate pieces just like you normaly see. I have seen that a lot, as the **** dries it shrinks and falls apart. Each piece then has little wrinkles on it from the shrinking.
One possible reason it is stuck together may be that the fallow actually had a drink, and/or there was a lot of the green grass around. When the grass is green they can gain all the moisture they need from the feed and the deer will browse the dry grass and shrubs to even out their diet and they still may not need to drink.

Yeah same here on my property, there were about 16 odd little shrubs like that one in an area of 100m2 that had been rubbed or eaten.

Your asking me. Bahahahahahahaha no idea Jindy.
Acacia I think jindy, I'd love to find out what it is for sure, next trip I will. This area is pretty green and I haven't seen signs of them eating it yet.
Funny how they have favourite trees to rub, it varies in area from what I have experienced. Those fallow around home jindy just love that small non native pine hey. whats that stuff called.

It seems that no matter where you find fallow, you will find them in the local pine forest.
That area down on the river near home they seem to give the Cyprus pine a real flogging. I am sure you know the area I am talking about
Cyprus pine thats the stuff, I know the area in question mate
No joke I have seen a patch on saplings the size of a football and only the couple of cyprus pines in amounst it had been touched.

I've seen wombats and skippys do simular to that mate, but thats not to say it wasn't a boar getting his tusk into it or a pig rubbing.
Couldn't fined any hair on it :?:
It does look like it was scrapped downwards indicating it was a roo or wombat.
Adam
Adam i to have seen many droppings that are stuck together and after a lot of reasearch ( reading books that mention this and other Sambar hunters) the general opinion is that it is from eating on improved pasture.
I have also found that it stays together even as it dries out.
Thanks piggy, There was a lot of fresh grass about as I mentioned. Thanks for the info mate.
Adam
p.s did you get your package.

i didnt know that roos and wombats do such scrapes on trees. I just figured it could've been an old boar as both scrubs were surroundd by pig diggings. But now that you mentioned, it could be roos.
When on the group hunt in mid september we found this rub. It was fairly fresh as you can see where the fern has been broken it is still green.
(maybe a week or so old)
It was rubbed from almost the base to a height of 4 or 5 feet.
Any suggestions of what type of deer this might be :?:
