Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on release aids when it comes to choosing between the wrist strap type or a 3 finger grip handle?

I started with a Wrist Strap style but found I could draw higher poundages more easily with the Hand Held. The strap style also got in the way when adjusting sights etc.
I use a TRU Ball Pro Diamond, a little pricy but money well spent. Particulary concerning comfort & feel every time I draw.

I use a wrist strap style and find it very convenient.

The one that I use swivels out of the way when not in use.

Tried a three finger job, just doesn't suit my style.

For hunting, I go for the index finger release every time, for target,I mainly use a 4 finger thumb release. When I get my Apex 7, I will be useing the index finger release, because its a little bit short in the draw for me.

I've never been one to use release aids. I prefer to feel the string in my fingers. Feel like I have more control. Though I did try a wrist strap release aid. Big bulky one. Kept getting in the way. But there are some really good ones out there. I think you've just gotta try other peoples if you can to find which one suits you personally.

jo i was the same,i use to always shoot fingers...if u ever get the thought again, hav a look at the new scotts wild cats, like the itty bitty goose models...they have a rope or small strap connecting to the head, which makes them light but u can tuck them up under the starp out of the way when hunting....not to hijack the thread, but jo where did u hunt up in the cape? were u weipa way?? cheers pat :D

thanx everyone for ur advice, I guess I would be best off to buy a wristy & a hand held & try them both out. I will be using it for hunting so if anyone has any tips for the type i should be looking for it would be greatly appreciated. cheers. :)

I tried one of the hand helds for a while and that is the reason I ditched it for a wrist strap....it is hand held :? you have your bow in one hand and the release in the other while stalking. You can't use bino's, etc without having to put it down.

G'day Pat. Unfortunately we didnt get up to wiepa. We did have plans to go right to the top, but just didnt get there. We went to Cooktown to visit a mate via the daintree route...Not a recommended trip. Very slow, very rough. Great to experience it but would not do it again.

We hunted up near Bathurst Bay. The only things we got were oysters, mud crabs, barramundi and Scott got himself a fairly impressive scrub bull.

His pic should be in the game section within the next few days hopefully.

Would love to go to weipa though. Maybe next year when we go up we will get there. Fingers crossed.

Cheers Jo

Pat I may have toned it down some, but the trip was bloody awesome. And yeah those oysters would just melt in your mouth.

I have a cheap one from Red Zone made by Alcock and peirce in Melbourne. It wasnt too expencive and Instantly improved my Shooting. It is a wrist strap one, I just click it onto the string itself, I found it difficult to begin with having the bigger draw to pull back.

I was at 3/4 draw and my finger accidently pulled the trigger Luckly only releasing it into the brick shead. ive lernt my lesson to keep my hands wrapped around the devise and not infront of the trigger under any sircumstanses.

This release aid has an adjustable trigger wich wouldnt be too bad messing with at one stage but straight out of the box it was all good. I only payed $60 Aus for it too.

Some more expencive modles come with saftey features. When i begin target shooting and club shooting im going to lash out and see if i can afford one. take care.
