Hello all, and Welcome to my thread. This will be an on-going thread that will probably have regular input untill and even after a purchase is made.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some Questions befor we begin.

Q.What are some Pros/Cons of Choosing smaller Axle-to-Axle Compound bows?

Q.For thoes of you who shoot compound bows with Identical cams, and ones with just cirular ones at the top and Cams at the bottem, What are the difrences between the two? As in Draw Smoothness, noise, ect.

http://www.pse-archery.com/2006_product/2006_PSE_Compounds/page/06_firestorm_Lite.jpg
The FireStorm Light specs are;
Brace Height: 8-3/4"
I.B.O. Speed: 292-300 fps
Axle-to-axle: 30"
Weight: 3.3 lbs.
Let-off: 80% (65% adj.)
Item #0408NH

http://www.pse-archery.com/2006_product/2006_PSE_Compounds/page/06_typhoon_dipped.jpg
Brace Height: 7-3/4"
I.B.O. Speed: 295-303 FPS
Axle-to-axle: 33-1/4"
Weight: 4.1 lbs.
Let-off: 80% (65% adj.)
Item #0412CF

The two bows here are alike, both would to be suited to me , heck they are better than the one im using now so of course they would be. After some Searching around i have sourced some Prices, Shipped new from Australia im looking at about $772.69 for the Firestorm Light and $596.77 for the Typhoon.

Shipped NEW from America on ebay im looking at around 397.820 AUD for the FireStorm Light and 332.625 AUD for the Typhoon, remember this doesnt include shiping and the fluctuation of bidding.

You might be thinking to yourself that id be silly to pay the higher price, but all in all im happy to may more, selling my current bow recoops the diffrence anyways, and knowing i have a NEW product in a box from a local dealer kind of puts me at ease. Ebay might be grate for some, but i wouldnt want to risk giving my cash away. so if your still following the thread , have a crack at my questions and give me some advise, Im not sure what to do next.

Jay,
How do you intend shooting your new bow when you make your choice, generally shorter axle to axle bows are better suited to sights and release aides.

Bows with an axle to axle length longer than 42 inches are better suited for finger release shooting. String finger pinch, becomes more of an issue the shorter you go with bow length, if you shoot with fingers.

A little more information on your draw length, shooting style etc would be helpful, when considering bow styles to suit your requirements. :D

For a good shorter axle to axle package for hunting,
Check out the Martin Jaguar hunting package at www.archerymart.com.au for $599 including Martin 8 arrow 2 piece quiver, 8 gold tip arrows, centrerest, s2 economy fibre optic pin sight.

I'm told the Phantom is going for $429 new, as well.

Woody is right about the axle to axle, if you are shooting fingers the two pse's you've picked wont be very forgiving. Shooting release would be fine but. Not sure about the cams but i have a reflex with both cams shaped funny (not round top or bottom) and it is very smooth and quiet for the price.

I would buy PSE (Piece of **** Incorporated) if you paid me!

I would prefer the Martin over the PSE myself.

I just sold my pride and joy after a time of agonising over a shorter ATA bow.

If you want an all-round bow and shoot with a release aid, look for something with a 35 - 38" ATA.

But if hunting is your premier archery persuit, and you use a release aid, look for a bow with an ATA or 31 - 34".

Fingers shooters look for something over 38" ATA.

By the way I bought an Outback :D

woody has given u some good points.. along with the others .i also like that u prefer to by locally,u may pay a couple bucks extra buying here in aus,but the best thing is u will have service and backup..and with the right dealer u cant put a price on that...so may i also say when u choose ur bow also choose a good dealer, ask around about that too.a good source will be the guys on here as well...

plenty of good bows out their these days,im a matthew fan,i have both the outback and switchy,,but they are a few more dollars...best of luck with ur choice and we look forward to some pics of both ur bow and game..cheers pat :D

Thanks woody befor i begin cheers for them broadheads. Havnt scored a kill with them yet, and i sould be going out the the archery club scene in ballarat soon . I landed myself a job and just need to finish moving in.

I intend to be shooting with all the bells and whistles this time around, meaning sights, stablisers release aids ect. So a shorter ATA is fine in that respect.

I currently shoot a 29" Draw length at 60# , I hunt anywhere I can go so I dont need a bow to suit the location im shooting. I'll also be signing up to do some compitition at a club.

Thanks PUK, but I have my sights set on P.S.E Im sure Martin compounds are good also.

bowriver, thankyou for your info on the cam drawing, i probably go for ones with both cams the same.

PeterM, Bloddy nice deer/story in the Current issue of Bowhunting Downunder. (whats your occupation man? seems that your a fulltime hunter  ) Ive only ever shot the pse's and wouldnt shoot anything else.

aussiehunter, yeah i thought id put some cash back into the aussie economy, to be honest if i had a little more cash id be getting the new Switchback XT for around 1295. but thats without all the accessories.

Wareagle, i see alot of hoyts at the club when i went but they are not my thing, just too... ugly. (Heap Of Yanky Trash) HOYT !

thanks for all the comments and the input fellas. ill do a little more researching.

PS. Anyone intrested in a P.S.E Nova ? Ill post in the classifieds soon.

I guess I should have elaborated on why I don’t like PSE, but as we all do once we have had a bad experience with something we form opinions that will stay with us for ever, anyway had a PSE once, I ended up wearing it, and I’m sure there current model would be as good as the any, as there is allot of very good bows out these days, but you know the story once bitten twice shy!

And I wish I was a pro bow hunter, the yanks can do it, so I would love to have someone pay me to hunt, any offers anyone?

Good find mate, there is some good reading in there. Should try and keep it available for the young & new shooters as it would answer nearly all their questions.

TheGos, I put it in the links.

Have to leave the advice on PSE bows to the others, but I have had no problems buying on ebay. I did it and shipping my bow out didn’t cost that much. If your talking about half the price I would seriously consider it. While we continue to pay inflated prices for goods there is no incentive for companies to enable retailers to offer better prices, but if you change your spending habits, hopefully they will change.

Mind you the extra help and advice that you will get by going into a store and talking to them (as opposed to buying over the internet from either America or Oz) is priceless.

Jay,
Its a single cam for me. IMO they are easier to tune, and need tuning less often with proper maintenance.
I know you like PSE but I have the new Martin Saber with the Dyna cam, bought the son a new Martin Jaguar with the Dyna cam and bought the wife the new Martin Tigress with Tru Arc cams, thats how much I like Martin. I feel dollar for dollar they are as good or maybe even better than the PSE. At almost half the price. And yes before you ask I have owned a Darton, Pearson, 2 PSE and 3 CSS, and a Golden Eagle just to name a few.
Just my opinion. For what its worth :)

I know you like your PSE but I have had a PSE, 2 Hoyts and now a Mathews and I would rate the PSE the least likable of the 3 brands. After having a Mathews, I would not consider changing to another brand BUT it was the most expensive bow I have bought.

Thanks for all the input fellas, My mind isnt set on the PSE, its just one i had in mind, there are heaps of manafactures but it boils down to thies one.

Mathews, Martin, Pse and BowTech (Anyone had experince using thies befor? Let me know your thoughts) A 1,200 dollar compound isnt off the cards as i have a new job that pays well, an xbox fully decked for sale, My current Bow and a Holden Jemini for sale, the cash isnt too far off.

Thanks for the helpful link The Gos.
I've Come to conclude that a single cam would be better than the dual, a longer brace height would suit me, Shorter Axle to Axle design wouldnt be a problem using my release aid, stableisers will help with noise reduction as well as keeping a lighter bow stable whilst aiming my adjustable sights. More research and ill get back to here. Almost time for Pizza.

Hey pat, wondering the diffrence in the SWITCHBACK , SWITCHBACK LD & the XT? I can only see that the XT its a little shorter, lighter and features the same cam as the LD, but almost identical to the Normal Switchback.

aussiehunter

i dont know anything about the xd and i can only comment by what ive heard about the xt...it seems everyone has said that the xt is a combo of the speed of the switchback combined with the shorter axel to axel of the outback,,,
i can say that the switch is slightly faster than the outback so it would be a nice bow..some say the xt its quieter less hand shock etc,but honesty both bows are smooth and shockless now.
i do know rob has a demo xt there for anyone to try, dont know where u are,,,but i know u wouldnt go wrong with any of the models..me id go for the xt,esp if u like to hunt as well as 3d....
did u pop onto the matthews forum, heaps of guys there with all the models, wealth of info there..
i dont know if anyone on here has one and might like to add??
if ur not far from rob he is good as he will set everything up for ya,or catch him on a 3d shoot...cheers pat :D

ps i can see ur in vic, give rob a call and hav a chat see what he can do or suggest...

I thought LD was for Long Draw, but I could be wrong.

What about a Bowtech TomKat? Can be got for $800 delivered from U.S, with hard case, release, arrows, sights etc. Small A2A, great for hunting and very quick. That would be my pick easily.
