Ill probably make the two anyways, so you can have a range to choose from, or package the two together. Let me know what your opinions are

i like the first, wow great looking graphics...what others are u going to do??
I began building the first one, It didnt have much area to shoot so i midifyed it but now it looks a little funny, Ill re start it and post some pics tomorrow when i get the digital cam back.
The graphics were done by 3d web service, i just nicked em from the web site, the pics are from a fully animated final, but costs an arm and a leg to purchase/download.
10 Kilos of Earthenware Pottery Clay
5 Kg of Plaster of Paris only costed me 15 bucks. Bloddy cheap !
the hardest part of this whole process is making the model to mold. It looks ok but not good enough. Back to the drawing board.

G'Day Jay, good to see someone else wanting to make 3D targets. Both designs LOOK good, but I can see most shooters shooting the crap out of the legs until they fall off, then you have to prop them up with a stick every time you shoot at it. We had some Austyle G1 rabbits until the above happened and now we no longer buy G1 or G2 targets for that reason. If you do proceed to make them, try and incorporate the legs into a solid base, gives them something good to stand on, look at the McKenzie fox as an example. Good luck.
If the project for larget animals is cost effective Hopfuly we'll be seeing everything from Rabbits, Cats, Foxes, Goats, Pigs, to Deers. ONLY Austrlaian Species will be produced.
Just be patient with me for the time being, as this was a brain fart i had less than 24 hours ago. Stay tunes. And if you have had experience with 3d targets befor just give me a few pointers , cheers fellas.
Dale Furze, With the prototype rabbit i was doing moments ago, its base was the footprint of the body from a birds eye view, it sat very firm on the table.A final product will most likly feature metal spikes/rods to stick into the ground to keep it upright.
Ps.I was unaware that An Austrlaian Company was already producing 3d targets! My aim is to produce theis not so much on a comercial basis but just for a few people who want to try it out for a good price.Unless i got what others dont, than ill get into the formalities.

aussiehunter your right man, I seen them last night at thats what got me thinking. I thought they all looked to be quite.. ****. And who wants to shoot a COYOTE or a bloddy TURKEY anyways? not me. not if i can help it. So here I am. And if it works out well, you'll be paying AT LEAST 1/2 the price.

damn right its lonely...pouring rain.etc...i hoping for some lost swedish female backpackers might drop in...better chance at winning the lotto... :D
how about your new sweedish housewife brings home the winning lotto?
Sorry to be a pain, but i almost always see rabbits standing up more, with their weight back on their 'hind legs, and their heads up so that their front legs are pointing straight down from the shoulder to the ground. Does this make any sense?
They look like the first one, except up at the front a bit more, and the ears straight up.
Puk 8)
hey pukthats the first thought that went through my head when thinking about designs, i only had the two pictures to illistrate the basic idea, i know exsactly what u mean though, the last rabbit i shot was standing like that, and is also a harder target to shoot. I have approx half my clay left so ill be making one like that. Ill do a few sketches and Post a pic of my Work-in-progress model im currently sculpting. thanks puk.
Ive demolished 2 models thus far, i just wasnt happy with them. But now im Carving a block of clay into a rabbit, slightly harder but easyer to keep symetrical. Looks more like a Plucked Chook but once i add its head and tail and make some detail it should look sweet.
Just another question Ears like this...(more realistic and 3D!)

Or More shooter friendly, I believe a design like this would last longer, but is less appealing. Its you to you guys.

Jay, I'll give you a tip I got from Rick and Dave, the makers of the Austyle 3Ds quite a few years ago. What they did was shoot the rabbit and freeze it in the position they wanted ( lying flat ) then plastered around it, cut it into plates that were easily removed when moulded and whala! one simple mould made. Don't try it with the family cat, and good luck squeezing a Billy Goat into your freezer.
We at Twin City Bowmen have bought some of the Canga targets, and though they look a bit ordinary, they will take all manner of arrows, and give them back quite easily. They have a rubber panel running down the middle to stop pass throughs, the fox you see is the same as the McKenzie I suggested you look at and possibly something you could incorporate your rabbit into.
Although not real pretty, it's probably the best 3D I've shot into.
thanks dale, i thought of doing that last night actualy. but i could be trying to find a rabbit for a while, im not familiar with the ballarat area as we just moved here. And having a few days off i can just tinker away at it in clay, im about to begin with the head, its taking shape :P if i could only get off this i would have finished already.
I might do that in the future , the freezing technique that is, to larger game. You would also remove all the fur i take it. I think I'd place large game into thoes portable freezers and kind of susspend them from the roof. to keep their shape... Unless you wanted a 'bedded' style target, so as long as their tounges are still inside their mouth :P
Would Rick and Dave care to share some more info ? lol Im just after some Foams in liquid form, ither high density ones or ones i may add hardners to. once the mould is made and i make my first rabbit out of rubber, ill source some dealers.

Jay
the top end bowhunter club brought a heap of oz 3d stuff from the rabbits right through to the big buff and aussiehunter is right the first thing to go and the sitting rabbit was its front legs but both rabbits and the cat were/are harder compound then the rest of the 3d anamils that split easy so now they look like frankinsten held together with silicon, the goats suffer from loss of balance, looks cool shooting the small one and have it fall over but the large goat is heavy enough to bend or break your arrow when it falls the wrong way  the three sizes of pig are great they has survived the best todate and the standing deer has lasted longer then the laying one we have a couple of the mc kenzie 3d's but they compond is hard as well and sometimes bloody difficult to get the arrow out of even when luded up, just some feedback hope it helps
Tac
For sale. 9 odd kilos of clay
j/k I can tell you know now I wont be giving up my day job. I just mashed my rabbit back into a slab and placed it into its packet. Making one from scratch, using only pictures and having no experience kind of made it hard. I never done sculpting befor and i wont be doing it for a Long time, unless its the abstract type where anything goes. This doesnt mean its finished with, this is the trial and error part of the design phase. Were well off yet.
So off hunting we go! My brother and I should be able to tag at least one rabbit maybe even a hare.So until next week. Thanks for all the input fellas it has been most apriciated.

Jay. Rick & Dave split years ago and kept their compound quite secret, even after spending 4 days hunting with them, they wouldn't give it up.
For a rabbit around Ballarat, you could try the paddock near Incitec/Pivot on the Creswick Rd. near the Western bypass, I used to cart pallets into McCains in the early hrs. of the morning, always Rabbits and Hares there. Find out who owns the joint and knock on the door. It has a small creek running through and shrubby tree/bushes, looks like easy stalking. Good luck.
thanks dale, ill keep and eye peeled, and ill pm woody as he also lived in ballarat, met him twice now, but not for hunting... to buy some of his 'Outback Broadheads' :D
