lol on a serious note do many of you guys have your own bowpress? Id like to be able to tune and service my own bow when ever needed in the future is it cost effective to spend money on one or should i just get my brother to knock one up? His a Metal fabricator :D

Id get your bro to make one up. Then it can be made to snuggly fit your bow, there are some plans on here somewhere for a home made bow press, fabrication work is needed.

I have posted these before and some people bashed it, I have some conveyer rubber to go over the riser and thick leather for the limbs. I have put quiet a lot of bows in it and had no damage.

I bought a Dieter bow press its an Aussie made product ( Coffs Harbor)and it works well on all bows. If you are interested I can give you the details.

Jay,
You can make a bow press with a large turnbuckle, a D shackle, 2 short lengths of chain and 2 100mm X 10mm bolts and a roll of electrical tape, drop in one day and I will show you how it works.
Very basic, but it works and is very portable. Only works on solid limb bows, but that looks like what you've got on your other "bow press" :D

Will do for sure ! Solid meaning non-split limbs right?

Have used this one to press everything from a Mustang to a Switchback, even pressed a RazorX in it the other day after making the cable a little longer.

Downfall is you cant pull the bow apart when pressed unless you adjust the cables flat, and I havent tried that yet.

But otherwise good to use, and cheap, jack was the dearest bit at about $25 but you could scrounge one up second hand heaps cheaper.

Hey stunva the pictures didnt work, Im not sure if you can link pictures from Geocities to a third party website. Try www.Photobucket.com Its free the only down side is they resize your pics if there too big but generaly for web based surfing it makes it a little kinder on the people who dont use Broadband.

I posted a "how to" on building a bow press some time ago.

These pics are of my Mark 2 effort.

Just made the frame from thicker steel and used a different pivoting system to stop movement.

Also, because of all the different models I have been using on it, I have increased the mounting points for the bolts.

Warlocke

It is a great looking piece of kit

The pins that are padded and contact the limbs, are they able to rotate?

On a bow like my Darton the riser is short and the limbs far from parallel and I would think that as the press was tensioned the outside pins would move along the limb. Is this how it happens? I don’t know if I would be happy if they scraped them up or crushed them :(

Jindy,

The pins are only finger tight and do rotate.

When the inside pins contact the limbs near the pockets they don't move.

The arm pins don't move along the arm very much at all, but the do rotate about a 1/4 turn.
