I go away for the week and looks like I missed the fire works again!

Anyway I’m buggered and I'm just throwing these pis'c up quickly as I need sleep!

And I’ll put more up over the next few days ok, but here are two of the better ones I think, as I’ve only looked though them quickly!

And yes Steely I did beat last years model, with a 332 plus monster, 19 points but might bet a penalty for having over spread but anyway he’s an awesome stag!

And also managed to take an awesome fallow buck also, he look’s like a monster too!

They sure are some fine deer.

Before you left you said they were in the roar but those guys are hardly into hard antler. Is that normal for over there?

There were stag’s roaring, but I would say the roar was still some weeks off, most stags where in the process of rubbing the velvet off, as where all the fallow, and they are very much in hard antler.

As most would know water valley and the deer in the south east of SA start allot earlier than NSW and QLD, and the sad point is if you don’t get there first the rifles shooters will just about have shoot all the big stuff well before the roar is in full swing.

Also the red like all the places I hunt reds in NSW finish there rut well before the fallow has even hit full swing.

As for price’s they are the same as hunting in QLD, except there quality allot higher.

peter,so are these closed range or open...and to get to be such huge heads is it from the blood lines or way they are fed??? as ud never get a red like that in the wild in qld??...

i hav hunted diaper station, which is purely open range wild deer and u will pay around 2000.00 and allowed to take 2 deer, how is that price compared to there....

cheers pat :D

Water Valley is closed range mate, but other that the velvet pens around the house it is the largest hunting preserve in the southern hemisphere, with over 500 square miles of area to hunt. In most cases the only deer fence you see in cretin sections is too separate the Rusa and the Sambar so they don’t interbreed.

As for price it is a little cheaper but you only get to take one red for that price, fallow bucks are normally $800ea.

peter thanks for ur reply.the price is a lot cheaper than i thought,i really thought ud be looking at thousands,i was kind of using N.Z prices to estimate....

so do they grow them for velvet first and then let them go and be semi free after they r old,or do the animals start and live their whole lives out in the large paddocks....

how is it they have such great antler growth,i asked a little earlier...is it due to blood lines or r they fed??

how many deer would they run...im just asking as im curious,it sounds like a big operation..im on 500,000 acres here so i can relate to the size etc....

and lastly is it all self guided or would u have paid more if u were guided..

cheers pat :D

Pete i hunt a property only a few km's from watervalley so its a big help with the nowledge that some are starting to roar now  when do you think the roar will get into full swimg on reds and fallow down there? The fallow about 45km from my house are about another 2 weeks earlier than the ones down the southeast. I think i'll try and get down there for the fallow rut.

I think buy the early to mid march max mate they will be at it strong, the fallow by the look of things will not be that far behind like they normally are, I think this will start on time.

It's not hard mate to check what stage the reds are at since your so close, just find a quite spot in the arvo and listen right on dark and they will tell you what there up to, but it not too far away trust me.

Thanks pete, wish i was closer as its still 500km for me to travel but my cousin lives there and i could get him to tell me. He never knew it was the deer making those noises until i told him lol.

Hey Jerry, the boys are just being friendly.

I think Sparra was getting to the point of the "f^%king" bits, in the past we have tryed to keep these to a min as it just wrecks a good post.

No harm done mate, I'd be excited if I was heading into deer country this weekend also. Best of luck Jerry and let us know how it all go's.
