Gday guys,
Just wondering if any of u hav hunted for pigs near Braidwood NSW? I booked my next hunt there and the farmer reckons theres plenty of solid boars out that way. He actually has taken a 157kg boar dressed. How did u go if u hav hunted there?
cheers.
Yeah there used to he heaps of pigs in that area, there still a few, but would not say plenty in which way of form, but his place might be good, or he's just talking it up like most so they can get they $40 to $60 a day of off hunters.
And when did he get the 157kg boar, 1975-1980?
Anyway I hope there plenty there for you, if there not let us know and we can start a list of hunting places that are just rip off’s so other can not waste there time or money.
Gotta agree with Pete, when I lived in the Wollongong area I used to hunt Braidwood & surrounds, were some pretty good pigs about, but they copped a fair pasting by hunters.... may still be some, for your sake I hope so, good luck :)

some of these places allow rifle shooters as well...id ask that question, and if yes, imho id give the place a miss...cheers pat :D
I hope there is plenty mate I really do.
But I have put some hours into the braidwood area and never seen good numbers on an outting. I seen a huge boar in 98 and thats about it. However seen a fair few deer in that area in 02.
Should be able to whistle a fox or see a rabbit if nothing else.
Pretty sad most of these $40-$60 places, like inland hunting guide and stuff never heard good results before.
I'd actaully be steering clear of them and spending that extra money on fuel and door knocking for permission else where.
Then again if time is limited maybe these paid places are better.

I have a my bow hunting mate who lives just out of Braidwood, in the pines (axe would know where I’m talking about) down Mayfield road, and the road to Nerriga and he takes good boars out of there every year, but he only get them with dogs as the big fella’s never seam to come out of the tee tree forests there, and they are nocturnal so everything that and bow hunter want’s is missing, like regular movement in normal hunting times for pigs, morning and dusk.
Also there are still heaps of dog hunter’s who hunt that area still so the pigs are very wary, anyway I’m not trying to put you off just trying to give you some local knowledge.
Again let us know and we can give it the thumbs up for others tell everyone else not too if like I think mate.
I have got a few pigs in the area but nothing special...there are a lot of doggers around there also which makes the hunting hard and access to property's even harder as a few of them go wherever there dogs lead them..Where abouts around there do you find pay property's???Iv'e never heard of any around there...

This property that i off to in July is actually in Mongarlowe, exactly opposite the national park, and the farmer reckons the pigs bleed out of there into his property. And he also said he has saw a few red deer on that property on a few occasions but i didnt believe him until I just read your post adam. lol. Wat type of deer hav u seen there.? Did u get to take any?

A mate of mine has a property bordering the park right under Mt Budawang. He has only the occasional pig come through and I have never seen any deer sign there. You might have more luck with the pigs if the place you have is up between the pines and the park, but as people have already told you, the place gets a hammering from the doggers so even if they are there you will be hard pressed to see them.
The deer might not be reds too, they could be rusa, you aren’t that far from places they are known to be.
I hope you have a good hunt

No mate, I wish :D
I am always on the lookout for a place with a few of them, but where they are in good numbers the poachers are too, and they just stuff it for the good guys.
Mozza has a place with plenty of rusa, but close calls with poachers bullets have turned him off going there. :(
seen fallow mostly, but heard a short roar like a red that I believe was a rusa stag once.

we wont chat about poachers again jindy.. :D  :D
i read a post on the mathews site,,father and son hunting turkeys with shotguns and decoys...to cut it short the son hears some and goes ahead..the father come through later and thinks he sees a turkey. its the bloody decoy hanging off the son ,he fires on it with the 12gauge,son cops numerous pellets in his skull etc,,they have xrays..he is ok...
i didnt say anything on the forum as i didnt want to offend anyone, but hey what a case of make sure of what u r shooting at before u aim, esp if u know uve someone in the area...no excuse..
ive a small back pack from cabelas and it has a hang out blaze orange flap..these days u need bloody flashing lights on ur head against poaching rifle shooters..."no offence to the ethical rifle shooters"
last year,i had been scouting a property in the bris valley for red,,,i had actually set up my tree stand for the first time over this wallow, was going to give it a go..previously had set up my trail ,camera..
anyways it was early in the roar,i had got myself up there in the afternoon, been sitting for a hour or so and heard a roar,,started to roar back..we were going at it for 15 to 20 minutes and he was moving in..
im getting all excited...next thing damn rifle shooters on the property next door open up with their cannons..they were shooting their rifles in.
end of deer,i just climb down and packed up and went home..
who goes to where they are going to hunt and tune their rifle in???fools...
Talk about vision like a goldfish, how can you confuse a decoy on a hunters back for on the ground.
When I was hunting Whitetail deer in texas a boy was sitting with his back against a tree tapping his foot on the ground bored. A ladie shot for his foot thinking it was a deer and shot him in the chest.
I'd like to think that any of us here would make a clear picture of our target and its surrounds before we drew our bows back.

I've hunted a fair bit around Braidwood, Araluen to be more specific and have seen quite a few hogs there but they always managed to get the better of me. On one of my last trips there i found 2 rub trees that were very thick full grown trees. The owners have never seen deer there but it was definately a deer rub. I'd say either a Rusa, Red or Sambar. From what i've learnt it was too much damage and too thick a tree for it to have been a Fallow.
It's not so close to home anymore
Good luck with it young fella. Hope you have some luck mate ;)
Cheers, Cam
