The wife and I went out this arvo and caught 14 fish but only kept 4 for a feed. These two are a yellow belly and a spangled perch, the other two we kept were freshwater jew fish, both the jewfish weighed 4 pound each.Bluey reckons yellow belly is on the menu tonight.....not tonight boy......
did they come out of the Leslie Dam Barebow?
I had a few nice afternoons fishing up there. It's where i took this:

Those Jewies are sweet, aren't they? Illegal to keep them if you catch them in the Murray down here now.
That's a good size for a Spangly, too!

Nothing beats a quiet arvo fishing, especially when the family is interested too :D Nice fish Barebow.

OOOOH!!!! Nothing like a bit of yellowbelly, bit parcial to it myself. Not a bad effort seeing as the weather has been a bit hot for it. IMO the best times are when there is a good cold snap for yellowbelly & 2 days after the full moon for Cod in the early hours of the morning or just on dusk. Lucky bugger, i had to drive my sister to the airport in Brisbane this afternoon & had a dirty old toasted sanga from a servo that was crap for dinner.

Puk,we were fishing at Connelly dam, this is the 1st Yellow Belly we have caught this year, they are a bit slow for some reason, maybe because it has been so hot.
I would sooner eat the jewfish than the yellow belly and any cod I catch I release,I don't like eating them.
And I learnt something new today, are the jewfish getting endangered down there Puk.They are prolific up here but there are bag limits on all freshwater fish now, which is a good thing IMHO.
I was surprised to hear about the Jewies down here Barebow.
My family is from Dalby, and we grew up catching Jewies all over the place, even when there was no bag limit, and we could get a dozen at about 3 or 4 pounds each. You could fill a sugar bag if you wanted, but i never saw the point.
Apparently they used to catch them down here, but now they are never seen. If they are they are as rare as hen's teeth. You have to put them all back.
I suppose being bottom feeders that they compete with the carp, which have helped to wipe them out. They should bring a couple thousand down from QLD.
On the plus side, the yellowbelly (callop they call them down here) and Cod seem to be making something of a comeback.
Can't agree with you about eating Cod. Cod responds quite well to a bit of salt, and has big white flakes of flesh. I quite like it.
