View Full Version : Hunting Wallows
In preperation for my Sambar hunting I went out this afternoon to check on one of my hunting blinds above a wallow just to make sure it's still intact. When in this blind the wallow is 15m from me and the back of the gressy flat behind the wallow is 23m, I wanted it this close as iI intend to wait in there with my curve

Have you been practising that distance and angle?
Would be a shame to hear that you shot over a sitter :(
Is there some good sign around the wallow? :)
Mate thats exactly why I have put it there and the prevailing wind of course
It's the only wallow in the area and yes I have checked every inch, this wallow is visited daily by the stags when rutting and I just have to be there at the right time.
Last year I say 8 different stags in this area visiting this wallow so I have also set up a trail camera to see if I can pattern their movements a bit better than I think I already know.

That looks like a bueat spot. I have also sat over a couple of wollows for Red deer & pigs. You will get great satisfaction when evrything is right, knowing your quary's habits & it's like beating them at there own game. But on the downside it really sucks when that trophy walks in the wrong way or it just will not present a shot, but like somebody once said to me, quote: That's why it is called hunting and not shooting. I rekon that is spot on.

they are there all the time,so dont go crazy,,i paid 70 aussie dollars, then i paid here in australia around 60/80 odd bucks for two rechargable batterys and charger..they take those large torch/lantern batteries like the dolphin torches...
cheers pat
Aussiehunter,
When you start using your trail cam, maybe you could do a product review?
I'd be real keen to see the results, at under $100 I'd invest into a couple for sure if they work.
Wellsy

good luck with the wallow and the shots mate. make sure the films rewound before opening it, cause if it hasnt used up all the shots it wont rewind itself and you'll have to do it manually.
Looks liek your all set mate! I cant waite to see the result you have i hope you bag a bigun! I'd love to see some game cam pics imo they are awsome. when i save up a bit more i'm going to get one myself. See if there are any trophy goats visiting waterholes and troughs on my properties :)

Good luck
That looks like the perfect set up , sounds like you have invested some time already on this site , I will keep my fingers crossed for you , there would be nothing better than putting that kind of work in and having it pay off , hit em sweet mate I hope he is a thumper when he does turn up for a splash.
Went out today to get the film from the gamecam only to find it didn't work. The wallow has dried out so it is now just mud and is covered in Sambar prints. I put in a new film and will try again

ahhh, thats one problem people often say with the 35mm cameras. :(
when i put the film into it and set it all up i wait till it switches on and then walk in front of it and make sure it goes off. i set the camera to take 3 pics each time its activated, so it should flash 3 times then i walk over to it and see the display and make sure it says 3. once the film is wound on it will continue to wind ok, its just that sometimes it has a hard time getting started.
