My order of commencing stalk..
1. Wind direction (Smell)
2. Vegitation (Sight)
3. Ground cover (Sound)
4. Where you want to be. (this changes depending what the game is doing)
5. When you get there have you got a shot to take.
6. Execute shot
7. Game taken
Easy hey....NOT

My order of stalking this morning:
1: Wind direction
2: Vegetation
3: Ground cover
4: Goats walk into scrub
5: Bleat like goat, this keeps them still as they respond. :)
6: Draw for simple 20 metre shot. :D
7: Feel wind on back of neck
8: Hear sound of hooves fading into scrub   :x :x
9: Let down draw :(
10 Walk home dejected.

Move as slowly as you can and freeze for as long as it takes when they look up. Always keep an eye ear out for unseen game that could alrm you chosen quarry.
I agree with Warlocke. Also taking into account wind direction.

Mate this is the best advice ever for hunting deer. They will stand there and watch you walk by.

Depending what i'm actually stalking, but usually it is "This is gunna taste good!"
On a serious note it is -Walk on edge of feet being quiet
- Can anything hear me ?
- Has anything seen me ?
- Can anything smell me ?
This is constantly going through my mind after I have actually seen something to 'Stalk'. First train of thought when I get out of the car is "Which way is the wind blowing?". This dictates my start direction. 8)
Scent is the biggest problem, even if the game has seen you sometimes you will get away with it if you do't move and the game is satisfied you are part of the landscape after all...Glenn...

When you think you are moving slow enough, you're actually going twice as fast as you should be!

Always have the wind in your face and move forward extremely slowly. Take a step and have a good look around, then take another step. It's essential that you see the game before it sees you.
Alternatively, it's often better to find a good spot and sit back and use your bino's to find game and then to stalk in. Even so, the above tip still applies when you get near where the game is.
Mick
i try and keep the one line of "attack" so to speak so if game does spot u they will only ever see you in the same line. deer will alwways look time ansd tme again. i also keep all hand movements to a minimum and if i have to raise binos i do it over a minute or so. And the biggest one is look out for the unseen deer or boar laying in the grass between you and your game, take the time to glass the hole area for unseen game.
One of the best things to do also if you have seen no game is to sit and roll a smoke and light it.(i am buggered now as i gave up,so will have to pretend now)Game will come out of every hidy hole around you as soon as that smoke is in your mouth and bow in your lap............
I have also found that we have taken more game within a km of the homestead of nearly all property's i hunt on than out the back. Somedays it just pays to walk a little bit and sit down under a tree have a nap and see what walks by.
