Rohan asked me to post his story and pic. Enjoy. Jo
It was a wet and windy summers afternoon, But it didn't worry me because i was going goat hunting with my Dad.
When we arrived, we sat out the heavy rain in the car and discussed our plan of attack. When the rain stopped, we got out and walked and it wasn't long before i was on my first stalk on a nanny and a small billy. They soon caught my wind and were off.
About 500m down a gully, we could see a small mob of about 10 goats slowly walking up a hill to the west, so dad and I looped around them and started to work our way down towards them. When we got within 100m dad said he would wait behind a tree and watch and let me go in by myself.
I slid through the safron thistles until I got within 40m of the mob and then I waited about two minutes for them to come towards me. When they were about 30m away, I had my eye on this medium sized billy with a grey/blue coat. When I heard a very close bleat, I slowly turned 90
degrees to see a nanny only 10m away having a good feed on what grass
there was. It took some self control, but I passed her up because I had just seen a nice billy behind her. He was a white with medium sized horns.
He was broadside when I drew back my Martin Jaguar Magnum. I put my 25m pin tight behind his shoulder and sent a goldtip hunter shaft tipped with a blackstump iron bark broadhead on its way. I hit the goat perfectly behind the shoulder. He only travelled 15m before expiring. I had good penetration with the broadhead just passing through the opposite side. Just then I realised how big of a mob of goats I was amongst. There would have been 30 of them.
After a lengthy photo session, we made our way back to the car. The goat measured out to be 60 6/8 douglas points. My best so far.
