That's one gnarly looking head Stickbender, maybe he was damaged early in the development stage of the antlers but normally from what I've seen the antlers don't grow above the damage...Glenn...

Looks to me by the bottom form before the mushroom that this guy was getting a third branch on his antler. And his been rubbing it off in velvet. But thats a big guess.

Yes, I agree with reece, it looks like a bone cancer. I might see if a fellow I know who owns a deer farm can tell us.

Very interesting thread. It definately looks like antler cancer to me, possibly one of the new points developed the cancer and grew like this....

it comes of the back off the beam so i don't think it was a point .
i shot this on a deer farm and the farmer told me that this is the first time he has seen anything like this.
this is the 3rd head and the 2 before were ok no growth on them at all

That looks gross, but very interesting at the same time would be nice to know how or what happened to make it grow like that.
