cobar never has had that many goodins. i shot heaps of 30-35s but had to do a bit of travelling to get the 40s. there only one in that lot that came from cobar and it the same one i got on the tank and took two days to get him once i knew he was there. less than 20 kms out of town.
those goats come from nomans land on well planned two week hunts on motorbikes with the bare essentials and drinking swamp water. its a wonder we never got liver fluke, or mabee i have.

Excellent picture boss, are you using face paint or soot from the bush.

Adam

That's face paint, not keen on hoods, veils, generally don't use anything, just that this same fella had beat me 4 times previously. Probably didn't need it but... :D

Barry
12-08-05, 10:08 AM
Mate you just jumped out from behind that tree and scared the poor goat ta death didnt you

Think I would have keeled over too

Face paint certainly takes the shine off and damn I love that ASAT. Been wearing the ASAT hood but it annoys the crap outta me.... might try the scary make up too 8)

adam
12-08-05, 04:55 PM
I also prefer not wearing a hood, but will put it on if I see an animal or do the same as you Axe, gets me super keen wearing face paint or charcole.

Adam

Well done on getting that educated animal.

Axe
12-08-05, 05:19 PM
Ugly may be one reason :o
Ya see Coach the idea is to stop the ultra violet aura / shine that comes from humans skin, my face therefore needs concealing.

Now if I was able to approach the game facing away, you would think I wouldn't need the paint , however, I would still have a dilemma for two reasons, they being, the fact that I don't have eyes in the back of my head but more importantly the sun shines outta my A*se

Here's my best scoring Billy- 119 6/8 D.P. According to Dave Whiting there are two goals in goat hunting, to get a 40 inch spread, and have a Billy that scores over 120 D.P.
I have accomplished one of them!

Adam, he is a strange one. Beforte you fellas want to start guessing I will give you a little help, his spread is only 25" on the dot. My brother also got his first Billy Goat, the lucky bugger it went 114 on the dot. To say he was wrapped is an understatement, will get a photo of it as well to put up. I will tell you what the curly fella went tomorrow, just incase anyone else wants to have a guess :D .
Cheers, Fenton.

FentonW
05-01-06, 06:59 PM
Righto fellas here are the measurements for him,
Spread- 25 25
Left Fighting edge- 33 4/8 Right Fighting edge 32 5/8, 64 10/8
Left Girth- 7 Right Girth 7, 7
Total, 104 2/8

He is the first I have measured (Have measured a few over the years to) that has gone T.C with a spread under 28". My brothers R.C had Fighting edge measurements of 31 7/8 and 32 2/8, just to show he has a hell of a lot of curl for such a small amount of spread. The best part is we saw his brother (Looked identical) that looked to be a bit wider, even has the horns overlapping like him. Can't wait to get out the again.
Cheers, Fenton.

macka, in the area i live in the goats are fairly hard to get on to because they are
hunted pretty hard by riffle shootes that shoot anything and everything they see, there was a really good spot i know of that was relitively untouched but a bushfire recently went through there

Hey thanks for the comments yeah he really puts all my other heads to shame.

Tim i diddnt get time to cape him out and i saw bigger heads there while out working so nect time i hope to go up in the summer time and steak out a dam so i can get stuck into the really big fella's and maybe a few more pigs.

Adam Because i was by myself i diddnt get much footage at all really the one day i did take it was when i shot that big fella and i had the camera on him as he was walking towards me. Had it set up perfectly on him from 20m and i got buck fever and shot over him twice on camera  I pulled it together though with a 5m shot as he was running past me.

Hi all.
This is my first billy.
I got him this week in central S.A. (just got back tonight)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c180/Jpukallus/Glendambo024_1.jpg

Spread = 47 inches.
Girth right: 9 and a half.
Left : 9 and a quarter = 18.5

Fighting edges: Right 40
Left 41 and a half =80

Is that how you measure it? Double the smaller of the girth and fighting edge measurements?

If so it adds up to 145 and a half points.
Not bad for a first effort. One shot, 20 metres, shot too high and forward, i think it spine shot him, because it only went 2 or three inches into his neck and he dropped like a rock, never made a sound, and was dead in minutes. A lucky shot rather than a good one. Damn bow wouldn't stop shaking

Puk

Yes as Scott has said that is the right way to measure them, and 145 is a bow hunter dream that many will never obtain a goat of that size one AWESOME BILLY, congratulations would be only one of half a dozen bow hunters in the country to shoot and goat over 140 DP! Again absolutely awesome mate, beginners luck huh! :D

It was edited to remove the tongue that i didn't realise was hanging out. I didn't notice his mouth 'cos i couldn't stop looking at his horns!
Remember, that's a 32 inch arrow, with a one-inch broadhead at the end of it. That gives you a little of the idea of the length.

Sorry all,
I was a little off in my measuring.
The official measurement for my billy as done by PeterM and Mark Southwell for TT is:

Spread =47 3/8
Curl L R
42 2/8 40 5/8 =81 2/8
Bases 8 6/8 9 =17 4/8

Total =146 1/8 DP

I am informed that this is to the knowledge of the panel the fourth biggest goat ever taken by anyone with a bow and arrow in Australia from any organisation.

Puk

You must be pretty happy with that hey?
Going to be a hard ask to top him now :D

Puk
07-05-06, 07:39 AM
Yeah, i have some work to do on goats now, don't i?
No Pat, i don't knowhow to cape an animal, i was hoping to learn how before i got to something like this. I had a folding saw and took part of the skull with the horns still embedded. I didn't know how to get them measured officially as there is no-one around here to do it, so i wrapped them in a lot of plastic pallet-wrap, black garbage bags and packing tape and posted them to PeterM in Canberra to measure.

when he posts them back i will boil them right out and then mount them on a wooden backing, with a bit of a plaque made up with his size, the date, and underneath i will put the arrow that took him. I have a framed photo of him to put on my wall also, and am hoping to be able to add the TT "goat of the year award" if i win it, at the end of the year.

Now there is a lot of room left on my wall for pig tusks, fox skins and deer antlers. Time to get hunting!

Hey Phantom, i didn't know they had big billies in Tasmania  Same as Puk must have hit the rum to hard and forgot he was in WA. We could only dream of such a billy walking the hills.

I know have a decent best three, after a decade of trying my best goats have come in a little over three months. Goes to show it is as important to keep unlocking new places to hunt as it is to refine your shooting and hunting technique (if not alot more).

ahh ok, would like to get too hunt some goats in the near future. but i'm in the process of sweet talking my uncle into introducing me to his mate that has a property in near charters towers with chital on it, and he also knows a fella near ravenswood i think it is...... haha so maybe after i get my first deer i'll give the stinka's a run for their money.

north/central qld mate 89km east of charters towers, 1459km northwest of brisbane to be exact. I'm living in a hole for hunting at the moment with only the odd few hogs in the cane and scrub that we know of, oh and the odd fox and cat. Can't wait till the dry season it's off to the station up north for some serious hog and scrubba hunting.
