Howdy,
Just ANOTHER question.....
Which vanes are you'all using?
Mark
The ones that were in my body the day I was born
I use 4" Elite Plastifletch for compound
and 4 or 5" feathers for Trad.
Am thinking of giving the Blazer vanes a go as well.

I havent seen the Blazer vanes in the cattle dogs I've got. Any idea on price?
Mark
They are around the $25 mark.
Try this link mate.

Also there is a archery store in WA that sells them as well.
If using them for hunting Adam told me to go for the 2" ones.

ive tried the elite plastifletch and the boning, and i recon elite plastifletch are a bit quieter and a little bit more durable. I havnt tried the blazer vanes yet but talking to a few people who have said they dont get very good flight with them over 30 meters plus unless they use mechanical heads
5" Feathers for me

Some reasons to consider "old fashioned" feathers. :D
Well Woody that has got to be one of the most informative pieces I have seen on comparing feathers to vanes, very interesting food for thought.

I use Duravanes 4" for hunting and 2.3" for 3d.
For my recurve arrows I use 5" goose feathers
They last longer than turkey feathers and are water resistant to a degree where the turkey feathers aren't.
When I shot vanes I used 4" parabolic Duravanes. They are tough and will come back to shape when the wrinkle if you dip them in hot water or steam them.Less than 4" is not enough for broadheads.
Now I only use feathers. They look better and are more forgiving.
Here are some feather shapes to look at.
What is your fletch shape?
I have been trying some diferent shapes and sizes lately.

I have been trying the NAP Quickspin vanes, they have a parabolic shape with a little lip on the tailing edge to give more spin without having to use lots of helical which can give clearance problems with rests.
They fly well with broadheads (125gn two edge & 100grain three blade)
They do seem a bit delicate as they get frilly edges pretty quickly.
I haven't seen them in Aus yet, I just pestered NAPs tech department to sell me some, so I don't have a price for retail here.
At the moment I am using five inch parabolic feathers which I have cut down to four inch sheild shape because I like the look of them.
