Maybe not as dramatic as some of the previous pics, but this pic was taken in the Vic high country.

It snows on the elevation I took the pic from.

The high clearing marked on the pic is where the Fallow were about five weeks ago.

Difficult country to get into had to hoof it, as the 4-wheeler couldn't get in.

If they were there 5 weeks ago, they are there somewhere close this week, although when the country has some angle to it finding them can be a real problem.

were you on a hunt or just hiking
Yeah mate we were hunting Tahr. Though apart from a close encounter on the walk up, most were in no mans land. Our stay on the tops were short lived, as the weather began to show signs malicious intent. Lucky we did, she turned real nasty half way down the mountain.
Here are some pics on the tops.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/dstoj1/glassingTharininaccessiblecountry.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/dstoj1/ResizeofResizeofImage-08.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v508/dstoj1/restonthetops.jpg[/img]

unbelievable country  how many times have you hunted over there ds?

ds
22-03-05, 10:22 PM
Mozza, the pics don't do the country justice, it's our own bit of real wilderness at our doorstep and its free!!
Been over to NZ 3 times, planning a trip in June ( which explains me getting a little carried a away here).
Just bought our airline tickets today $412 return, its cheaper than you can imagine.
Weather permitting we should get amongst them mountains and beasts :D :D

great pic Luke.

do you score many

Often not.. But hey that«ÉŸs hunting. If the sole objective was to kill animals I would honestly use a gun. Same reason why we don't use helicopters(plenty of time for them when where old and decrepit), sure you may sacrifice many days torturing yourself while packing in, but that«ÉŸs the thrill of it all.

Hey ds, those pics bring back nightmares mate, lol just joking, I spent a few cold and miserable days and nights stomping along that Travers river and up over the pass, absolutely beautiful. Got to the hut ait was full, had to sleep outside. Seen some chamois, but that was it
Will dig some pics out.

Yes ds, that was the hut just before u climbed up and over the pass.
Was in the army at the time doing a mountain warfare course, so it wasn't a real luxorious trip. lol When we spots the hut, we though u bloody beauty, but the occupants were not exactly willing to squeeze us boys in, we had been out field for about 15 days already so were a bit on the nose.

We started off up above Karamea, the scenery was worth every single blister that appeared while doing about 120 k's.

Will dig some pics out, not exactly sure where they r at present.

Cheers
