on the 21/4/06 i was invited out to a friends place to have a go at some rabbits, foxes and maybe even a cat.
we got up at 6:30 to go fox whistling. after a frosty 15 minute walk we reached our first spot, we were about to move when trevor said 'hey there's a fox' and sure enough there he was sitting on a log about 65 meters away just looking in our direction. after about 2 minutes of thinking whether we were right or not he decided to come in.
he came broadside at about 25m but wouldn't stop walking so no shot was taken, he eventually saw us and took flight.
after walking 20 minutes we found a nice wood heap to sit on and started whistling, i was looking left and trevor right and none of us saw this liitle fox right between us until he had stopped walking. trevor slowly pulled back his bow but the fox caught his movement and was off in a flash, he would have been only 8 metres away!
we walked back home and went to the new archery range to help his dad and scott goodwin build the clubhouse. we bought our bows because there was some promising looking fox country.
at 3 o'clock we went whistling again but we did something different we decided to get up trees and see how we go.
so we both found a nice concealed tree to sit in over looking about 20 blackberry bushes and after abot 1 minute i see a big red fox moving in, it took about 5 minutes of whistling to get him to show himself and he did at 30 metres, so i drew back my martin jaguar magnum and put my 30 metre pin on the sitting foxes chest and squeezed the trigger on my scott release aid to see my arrow fly 6 inches harmlessly past the left of his chest and then watch him bolt way over te hill never to be seen again, damn.
we found my arrow and went back to his house to hopefully nail a rabbit, what a day.
i think the reason he sat down was because the trees trevor and i were sitting in were 15 metres apart and he didn't know which whistle to come in to. he would look my way then trevors.
we went rabbit hunting that arvo and only 1 arrow was fired by me at a rabbit sitting about 45 metres away and i missed him by about 2 inches.
the next day was spent at a new hunting block and was uneventful with no foxes or rabbits sighted.
it was a great weekend and i hope to soon go and do it again but hopefully with better results.
