Trophy Bowhunts

Cam came for a quicky hunt over the weekend and managed to secure himself his first Chital. (and on the first morning). It all went downhill from there as he reconned it was all too easy (NOT)...

Here is his first well earned Deer and will be roasted to perfection in the next few days.

I'll let him tell you all about it.

Thanx for the kind words!

Well it was a great trip. Saw hundreds and hundreds of deer, but boy are those chital tightly wound

I've never seen an animal with so much to apparently worry about!!! They cant walk one step without looking 360 degrees, then they stick their head down, grab one mouthfull then look around another 360 degrees, with their radar ears doing a constant sweep.

Well a quick story.
We arrived at the property just as it was getting dark. Both Mick and Steve asked if i'd spotted the deer out in the paddock. What i thought was a heap of rocks out in the field slowly fed further out into the paddock. We estimated 200-300 deer
Well it was tuff getting to sleep that night but a few beers seemed to help and before i knew it i was up at 5.30 am slipping into my ASAT (no i didnt take my dress ;) ) Mick told me of a nice pile of timber to set up an ambush position and i was off. After only a couple of minutes a lone doe came through at around 80 meters. I watched her file off into the distance then noticed a mob of around 30 deer passing about 50 meters on the other side. So after they left i decided to move over to another pile of timber they walked passed. But halfway there i was caught in the open as another mob of 30 or so were walking straight at me. I slowly crouched were i was and tried as hard as i could to look like a bush. They filed passed at 35 meters and i came to full draw. A few noticed the movement but it was too late the arrow out of my new trykon was on its way smacking a young stag alittle too far forward but quickly slipped another through the boiler room and he travlled maybe 80 meters and went down for good. :D
All this within my fist 2hours of hunting Chital  I was stoked !!!
After finding Mick and Steve i made a few quick jokes about how easy this chital hunting was  boy was i wrong as i found out too many times the next few days. Anyway it was a great weekend and one i will remember forever.
BIG thanks to Mick for inviting me along on short notice. It was a rush buying sights and trying to set up my bow up in the twilight but all things seemed to work out ok. Got heaps opf venison and boy is it tasty
If you get the chance to chase these wily deer i highly recommend it and i have a new found respect for thoses of you who have already had success, they certainly are a tuff critter to bowhunt. (even though i'll always remind Mick just how easy they are ;) (did i mention i was the only one out of the three of us to get one  ))

Give Mick a bell if you ever want to chase these deer, he wont let you down!

Cheers, Cam

Good work Cam and good shooting.

They are the most awake creature you will ever hunt some days I look down to make sure I am not wearing my high vis mine shirt and take my cap off to make sure there is no flashing light on it.

I have never been busted from so far out so oftern by anything in the country , when you hunt these guys most months , a lot of other game seems like its asleep at the wheel, its not true but it sure feels that way.

If it makes you feel any better (it helps me a lot) back where the chital are from Tigers only get one in fifty or so attempts and they do it for a living.

Mate Well done really well done.
