I want to know if you have to be a member of aba to go bow hunting
No buddy you do not. if you want to claim game with ABA u do. They do offer a bowhunters education program that has some good points. If you want to shoot at an ABA club you must be a member of ABA.

Nope.
You need a license in NSW to hunt deer on private land you or your relatives don't own.
You need a permit to hunt in NP and state forest in Victoria I believe.
Other than that you don't need anything to go bowhunting other than permission from a property owner.
If you are in the ABA you can do a bowhunting course and then you can have your game animals scored and compared to other ABA hunters I think. Apparently you have some insurance cover while hunting if you are in the ABA too. I'm not in it.

in regards to hunting in vic its pretty bloody good. you can hunt any pest animal in state forest, un-occupied crown land, or private property you have permission to hunt on.
pest animals include; rabbits, foxes, pigs, domestic pigs run wild, goats, domestic goats run wild, sheep run wild, cows/bulls run wild, brumbies, horse run wild. etc.
if you want to hunt deer, you need a victorian game licence. its 40 bucks a year, and you dont need to have completed any test. this means you can hunt them in any of the above places, as well as some national parks at certain times of the year.
i still dont know what classifies as crown land, cause everythings either state forest, state park, national park, flora and fauna reserve etc.
from what ive heard there are still plenty of places where you can find feral cattle and other livestock run wild that are considered fair game. :D
Hey Humphrey according to the Victorian Hunting guide 2005 page 38 under the headding " Hunting pest animals on crown land "
it states and i quote " Anyone wishing to hunt pest animals on crown land may apply to DSE for a registration of interest to Hunt Pest Animals on crown land form " Cost stated is $11.00 if in doubt contact DSE on 03 9296 4400 and they will send you a copy of the 2005 Hunting guide.
