Well Sparra I read somewhere, that daggers, double edged knives & push knives are not allowed, however "ordinary" knives, sheath, folders etc. are ok. :D Having said this, I am amazed that there is no restriction on sharp TONGUES, as one is apt to find on this site.

You can't import any prohibited weapon, or anything classed as a prohibited import. The definitions for these things is different in each state and you are at the mercy of the customs inspectors at the place of inspection, be it the port or the mail centre.
The list of knives and their varieties that can«ÉŸt be imported, or are subject to the whims of the customs inspectors is large. If you have a particular knife you wish to get in you can send me a PM with the details (brand, type, ect«ÉŸ and I can tell you if you have a chance or not.
Things that definitely won«ÉŸt get in ( if inspected) are any sort of automatic (including really heavy blade folders that can be flicked open with your wrist) and any knife with a sharpened edge on both sides of the blade (this can also include edges that are not actually sharp but are thin enough to be sharpened easily). Customs do not make it easy for you and any parcel confiscated will be forfeit, so be sure if you want to gamble that you can afford it (I know this only too well  ).

Hi fellas, New here. but have a almost scarey storey. I'm really into knives and had the oppertunity to visit Solingen Germany last year. Solingen is the home of the German cutlery industry. I did my homework before I left I was told by a member of the Queensland weapons licensing branch that there was a specific form that needed to be filled out to bring any knives back into the country. That was not correct I found out later. you will need a form to bring a knife that is legal in your state but not legal for customs eg, double edged knives (daggers ) are currently still legal in Queensland (Though not in public, let's just bypass that bit for this disscusion) but they are illeagal to bring in to the country without the proper clearance given by your state Police weapons branch, But you can't pick the knife you want and get clearance before hand. So I buy several knives in Germany, declare them at customs and have one of the customs officers tell me the five inch bladed hunting knife that has a saw back is nearly a dagger!!! I shut up. As a knife enthusist my definition of a dagger has symetrical edges not two different types of edges What scares me is that I had been warned by a customs offical that if something is confiscated your chances of getting it back are very slim. You try to do the right thing and at the end of the day the definition of legal is depends on the experiance, education and mood of the customs offical doing the inspection. Guys just asking has anyone seen a small folding knife that has replaceable scalpel blades for sale anywhere? Casino Archery had a couple a while back that were already sold. These were a promotional knife put out by CXL Shafts. Thought they would make a great caping knife.

Just a heads up. I was talking to a knife distributor last week and it is being considered in the near future you willl need to produce a receipt for warrenty claims on new models. Older and discontinued models won't be an issue.
This is in response to the influx of knives being purchased on the internet from either overseas shops or individauls here in OZ bringing them straight in for resale. When an importer signs the argeement to import a brand they are under obligation to provide repair/replace warrenty services. If service is required for a knife purchased from overseas or from an individual, and that wasn't imported by the authorised agent then the importer is providing a service (repair or replacement) for a item for which they didn't sell.
It has been suggested that if a new model knife without a receipt or one that is of a line not brought in by the importer it may be rejected by them and you may have to send it back overseas to the manufactorer for warrenty claims at your own expense. With the time lag associated with that. It is not being questioned that warrenties presented to the manufactuer will be affected
The next bit is one of the main reasons these knives are so cheap is that they are being being imported without paying import tax because they are not being declared for re-sale. Those that are importing to re-sell and not declaring the income may become the subject of a Tax office and/or customs investigation for false (not declaring is counted as being false) customs declarations and income tax evasion. No, their wasn't a tax agent in the conversation. I am not an expert on customs or tax. This won't effect you the buyer, Unless you decide to on-sell products you import without an ABN. Carl
