Just if anyone is interested, i was browsing and you can buy 6 3-blade 100 or 125 grn heads on U.S. Ebay for a total of $18.50 Australian including postage. About $3 is not bad for a replaceable 3 blade head.
(If you're into that kind of thing).

yeah, i normally do too.
I have recently been impressed with Woody's outback supreme "single bevel" and their ability to cut bone (sever a spine).
But variety is the spice of life, and seeing these will get to my door cheaper, it can't hurt to have a look, can it?
I have also put in another order for another two dozen supremes, i think they cross over all the different types of game that i hunt the best.
These 3 bladers might not be as versatile, i might just use them while having a look at some deer.

By the way guys, i slightly resent being made to feel like a traitor for looking at other options. I agree with you, and can't see myself ever seriously getting anything else but outbacks long term, but it's on special, and i'm pretty cheap! They're not a test of loyalty, they're just arrow heads.

puk,u are totally reading into what i said wrong mate :)

u mentioned these broadheads thats fine..

i was just saying in my experience a good aussie two blade head is my preference and mate truly nothing to do with woody heads what so ever, sponsor stuff etc,,,and although i cant speak for scott, i would very doubt that scott meant anything on that lines either...

so mate, plz accept my apolgy if anything ive said has upset u..i was passing on my personal thoughts and experience only.

wish u well mate

Yeah,
She's right Pat,
I suppose that it is a sentiment i have felt after seeing posts on this same issue other times as well, and i just got fired up over nothing. It happens.
I suppose i feel the fact that i am a cheap beggar at times, and so i tend to jump at bargains and specials whenever i can. I have been burnt a few times because some of the stuff i have ended up with has just been cheap and nasty.

But with broadheads, i'm gonna have fun finding out, hey?

Advice is always appreciated, but we have to feel careful not to make people feel stupid for trying other things. I suppose that was what i was getting at. (In my own "talk-first-think-later" fashion.)

I totally agree with you Puk, http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c170/DavidMeredith/Emoticons/good.gif I have felt like that myself.

I shoot 100gn and no one makes them in Oz that I am aware of. I have had the "speech" quoted on more than 1 occasion  but it does not solve my problem.

It's a free country last time I looked, and I am in favour of people exercising free choice

Puk is a good customer, and as we speak he has some more on order, but there are horses for courses, if Puk would like to try some 3 blades modular heads for deer hunting, go for it

Hi guys,

I recently experimented with some expandable blade broad heads from Cabelas.

I lined up a goat at 15 metres and with an 85lb bow I thought it would go straight through but to my astonishment the arrow stopped on the shoulder and fell out! Does anyone want some heads for free!

Since running out of my favourite Bear Razorheads I use Blackstump vented heads now and love them.

I guess it's to each his own

This is a bit off track, but related.

I was talking to a mate the other day. Unlike me, this bloke has taken loads of game. He came up with something I've never heard of before and it made sense, to me at least.

He said he prefers 3 bladed broadheads. He went on to say that he used to prefer 2 bladed heads exclusively until he lost a couple of animals that had been hit well in the chest cavity. The reason he lost them, there was little or no blood trail and the cover was thick. Eventually after conducting an autopsy on a couple of goats, he came to the conclusion that the reason why, every now and then an animal would run off without leaving much of a blood trail. It was because occasionally a two bladed head will push through muscle with the blades aligned with the muscle tissue. In effect the muscle spreads apart with little actual cutting taking place and then after the arrow passes through, the entry and exit wounds are almost completely sealed when the muscle tissue moves back into it's normal shape. He likes 3 bladed heads because it doesn't matter what angle the broadhead enters muscle, at least one or two blades will cut tissue at an angle that will ensure good blood flow.

I thought it was an interesting and as far as I know, a unique concept. I won't be selling my 2 bladed broadheads just yet though.

You are quite right Mick. I have been using top quality 3 blades now for a number of years, yes I have had some blade failures, mainly on the back stay of the blades (usually only 1 blade though) but have never lost an animal. My theory, much like Micks story is this, should you shoot an animal poorly, say, kidneys or liver (still a pretty good shot) and the animal lays down, the wound, although not sealed can join together under pressure and slow the bleeding, so when you go to look for your animal after the 15min. wait period ('cause the shot was a little ordinary) you put the animal up again because it hasn't lost enough blood to loose consciousness. This is where a good 3 blade broadhead comes in handy, the wound won't seal under pressure, it will actually force it open creating faster blood loss.
