View Full Version : Fox tails
Anybody got a tip on how to split the last bit down without stuffing it. I always do no matter how careful I am. Is it an age thing 8)

Dero..
Everybody I see that takes off a fox tail trys to slide the knife point down to the tip but as usual the knife goes off to the side and stuffs it..
What i do for Deer & Fox tails is part the hair or fur in a straight line and hold it between 2 fingers and cut slowly down the lenght of the tail to the tip. Then i cut slowly around the tail to expose the bone thus when you pull the tail bone out. The tail then comes straight of the bone..
I havn't lost one yet doing this way.
Hope that helps
Mick
try only skinning half way down the tail and just pull the rest off, this looks good and you still dont get any hairslip and it will tan up fine, otherwise just skin it halfway down, pull the tail off with a pair of sticks and stick a knife into the hole and slowly skin to the tip
Thanks for tips fellas. Would having hard down on something flat help, 'cause I had it hanging off me hook thingees. I was sooooo trying to do a good job, talked myself into blowing it.

i dont have steady hands so i use a sharp pair of fingernail scissors to cut the length of the tail
Scisssors sound like a good plan. Have to nail another of the suckers now to try the advice.
Thanks team 8)

do it the same as ultratec, then use your knife to split the tail.
