Give us the quick version of your life story:
Um…born in Mt Isa, moved around a bit living mostly in small rural towns. Ended up in Bundaberg for my high school years before heading to Kingaroy for a year prior to Brisbane where I attended the Uni of Qld completing my degree in Human Movements Studies – Education. Spent 3 yrs in Moura, Central Qld prior to moving back to Brisbane in 05 and ending up in the Gold Coast mid 05 to present.
I have an older bro and a lil sis. My best mate is my little boy Taylor who’s 9 in May. My best friend is my wife, Amy, the love of my life (yeah I know, sop sop sop…)
Played and done almost every sport you could think of; from Club level European Handball, to rock climbing and abseiling (instructor) for just a few examples.
I became a doting and very proud father 10 days before my 18th birthday and was married to my son's mum for 7 and a half years before we split in late 2004.

The following is also posted in the "what do you do to pay for your passion" thread but I thought I'd put it in for those who may not have read it...so if you've already have, skip to the photos after this and go from there ;)
Well, as most of you know I'm a teacher.
But prior to that I was a plant operator, refining technician and lab supervisor at a Kaolin Clay refining plant. I worked there for 12 months straight out of highschool. I learnt skills like forklift operating, front end loader operating, how to run the refining plant and analysis, inspection and recording of product inspection data. It was a great job (NOT) and has left me with a pretty screwed up back, damaged hearing, moderately reduced lung capacity and I'll probably die one day from some kind of cancer due to inhaling the carcinogenic fumes of the various substances used in the processes (spontaneously combustable bleach mixed with concentrated sulphuric acid and water..mmmm....). I did this on a early week/late week style roster. 1 week would work 4am til 2pm and the next 2pm til 12am.
I woke up to myself after my first two weeks hols late in that year and never went back!
I then spent four and a half years completing my teaching degree at the University of Qld, St Lucia Campus in Brisbane. I studied a Bachelor of Applied Sceince - Human Movement Studies (Education). Basically this gave me the quals to teach Phys Ed from Prep/Preschool to Yr 12 and Junior Science up to Yr 10. It also means I know a crap load about the human body and how it works (and sometimes doesn't ). I have also spent 3 yrs teaching Yr 8 through Yr 12 Graphics (Tech Drawing) as well as stints teaching English, Maths and other senior Science subjects.
I spent the first three years of my career out at Moura State High teaching teenagers. After a transfer back to Brisbane I spent 1 term at Earnshaw State College (P - 12) before an extended period of high level depression convinced me to take leave. I spent my time doing relief work around various schools in Brisbane. It was during this time that I got my first real taste of the joys of teaching in the primary school setting. I was fortunate to land a job at my new School on the Gold Coast (the same one where my lovely wife teaches ).
So, I am now the only PE teacher on a 470 student Prep - Yr 5 campus at a great private school. I live 15 minutes from work! I have my own oval, my own tennis court, my own pool and my own hall. I don't have to fight or negotiate with anyone for any space or resources!
I find the unjaded attitudes and relationships that are possible to build with the younger kids to be a great thing and a very rewarding job at the end of the day.
During my time at Uni and in Brisbane I spent 2 and a half years in the Army Reserves as a signals operator (Hey Pat! ). I enjoyed the tremendous mateship and comradery that I developed with some of my fellow diggers. I find that this appreciation and a great sense and belief in mateship and loyalty to one's mates was the greatest thing I took from my time in the Army.
During my last few years I have also worked very hard at the business Adam and I started (ASAT Australia) importing, distributing and retailing ASAT gear until personal reasons forced me to take a back seat and hand over my active role to Adam some 2 yrs ago. Unfortunately work commitments and difficulties with supply and a problematic relationship with ASAT (USA) has seen ASAT Australia become no more. I still gain great satisfaction however seeing smiling hunters in Cashy's mag and on here wearing ASAT that I helped them to attain and indirectly through the use of a quality product the trophy they were able to get using it!

My beautful bride (and myself ;))

How did you get started in archery/bowhunting?
I would have to say that I started archery when I was about 6 but that it was in my blood before I was born. My father started bowhunting in 1978 and was one of 2 founding members of the Mt Isa District Bowhunting Club (27 yrs strong this year I believe). I shot my bow a bit as a kid but didn’t get into hunting until 2000. As with anything I do, I jumped in with both feet and have not looked back.
what was your first bowkill?
A humble rabbit, from 10 feet, judo point using my York “Boss” with 2117 Easton Gamegetter 2’s, ribteks and 4 inch feathers. His hide adorns my ‘quickee quiver’ that Taylor now uses on his bow.
what’s your favorite hunting setup and why?
I’ve said this many times…if I had three feet I’d have one in each camp. By that I mean, I love them all. Trad, barebow compound and high tech. Different bow, different mood, game and terrain.
what’s your favorite hunting method?
Given I find it somewhat hard to sit still for long, blind hunting and tree standing are not my cup of tea. I'm a diehard spot and stalker and play weekly squash fixtures in an attempt to stay as fit as I can for it.
where in australia is your favourite hunting location?
The favourite that I've been to thus far would have to be the New England area of NSW however I had a ball last year on Bowcomp and Cape York is certainly somewhere I'm keen to head back to (as would any other bowhunter! ;) ).
whats the first thing you look for when hunting a new area?
Water, feed, pads and game trails, oh and a great camping spot. Apart from that, the property owner or someone who has hunted the place before and can give me a heads up on anything useful. ;)
where would you like to hunt in the future in australia?
I would love to acquire a new hunting spot for reds or fallow in Qld, not too far from home (wouldn't we all? ;)).
whats your favourite aussie game animal to hunt and why?
I have done a lot of goat hunting so far and probably as much pig chasing. I enjoy each as much as the other but the pigs I am a little more fond of if I HAD to choose.
Have you hunted overseas?
No.
what is your dream overseas hunt?
I would love to hunt in Canada and have plans to travel there with my wife in the not too distant future.
What do you believe is the best promotion for bowhunting and why.
The best promotion for bowhunting IMO is us. It is how we conduct ourselves when others around us know we are hunters. By conducting ourselves as hunters in a responsible manner and by remaining ethical and honourable to the game we hunt, the mates we have, the clubs we're members of and the standards we set ourselves and those standards and expectations others (the wider community) have of us. If we look to improve ourselves and expect higher and better from each other as hunters and the manner in which we conduct ourselves we can look out for and encourage others towards promoting bowhunting in a positive light as well.
whats the one peice of advice you'd give to new bowhunters?
If you're going to purchase some gear do it with or after talking it over with someone who has experience in archery and hunting. When it comes to using it, learn from someone with experience and learn to do it the right way, the ethical and humane way and the honourable way.
what are your other interests?
Where do I start? I'm love photography, 4wding, squash, motorbike riding, gardening and graphical design.
I'm love spending quality time with my family and friends. There's nothing like a barbie and a beer with good mates and their's and my families.
My family is very important to me esp now we are spread all over the state and time together is seldom and precious.
My gardens (gotta love the hedge trimmer!) ;)

What is the best moment of your hunting career?
I have to say the several times I've taken new hunters out and seen them harvest their first game (Barry, Kimall and others) always are at the top of my list. Apart from that everytime I successfully take an animal with one clean shot and the result is a fast humane and painless as possible death is as memorable as the next. My PB boar of 28DP that I got on Bow Comp last year with 1 arrow from 31 m's under a log covering half of his chest to take out the heart leaving the pig where it lay is my recent one for example.

Who has inspired you?
In Bowhunting? The list is long...and in no order of importance:
Adam Greentree
Glenn Newell
Simon Steele
Barry Gardner
Paul Rae
Dave Whiting
Fenton Wooley
Graham Cash
Scott Goodwin
Allan Podlick
Dave Chadwick and
my father - Bevan Griffin
I have been inspired by these people for a whole host of reasons, from their attitude and commitment to hunting, their ethics, their mateship, their successes and their generosity.
what was your funniest moment in Archery/hunting?
When my mate Gregg chased a mob of goats for about 5km's up a very rugged moutain side, taking a number of shots on the way (and missing - first hunt ;) ); getting the goats to a place where he was able to stalk in for a very close shot on a large billy only to discover he'd run out of arrows and his water was 5km's back down the moutain!
What aspect of bowhunting do you enjoy most.
Bringing new people to the sport and seeing them derive enjoyment and satisifaction from it and to experience the full richness of all is has to offer.
Oh, and being able to share it with my son!!!
What's a few ethics that you strongly believe in while hunting.
I believe that you should hunt as if your mother was looking over your shoulder. If you were doing something your mother would not agree with or condone, chances are highly likely it's not ethical!!
Whats your ultimate hunting situation.
Me, a 6x6 red stag, a drawn bow, razor sharp arrow and about 5 m's between us :D (With a good mate behind me on the video camera!)
Mostly out of anything I've said I would like to say that I hope that TBGA and it's existence has helped other's in hunting in some small way. I hope that perhaps through adopting our "Mission Statement" others too go out of their way to help and assist new and old hunters alike to get the most enjoyment and satisfaction from their hunting that they can.
“To foster participation in bowhunting.
To promote humane and ethical hunting.
To protect the right to hunt.
To assist and educate fellow hunters.”
Well, that's enough waffle for now. I hope from this that you all know me a bit better or at least that you're still awake ;)
Feel free to ask any questions you might have, I'll do my best to answer them.
