Typical.
I am so annoyed with myself!
I went for a nice walk in the hills today where i normally find rabbits galore.
After a poisoning campaign and having calicivirus go through again, there were none there, so i sat on top of the hill under a tree, pulled out my "jam tin lid" home made tenterfield-style fox whistle and started whistling.

I got bored after about 10 or 11 minutes and stood up and continued walking.
100 metres later a bush 20 metres in front of me exploded and off raced "Old Raynard". A really nice looking very red fox in winter coat. I have a feeling that he was on his way in and if i had persevered for another 5 minutes i might have had a chance at him.
Be patient you moron!

I'm going to learn one of these days.
 Puk

P.S. Still, I've never even seen a fox while whistling before, so i suppose it's a step in the right direction.

Personally mate I never whistle in the same spot for longer then a few minutes before moving on, so don't be too hard on yourself. I find if a fox doesn't show in the first few minutes one's not coming or in ear of the whistle.

Ill move into another promising spot, 100 meters or so away and start again.

My guess is the fox wasn't coming in or payed no interested to the whistle. It generally doesn't take long for a fox to show up if he;s interested.

My last fox hunt Ben and myself were pulling foxes out of gully's every which way(afternoon) the next morning in a promising gully I spotted 12 foxes all full from the night and dark hours of morning and payed no attention. Heaps of mice gettign around so the foxes weren't interested.

Hope that heaps a little mate, and tha a fox comes your way soon.

Adam

the times ive had foxes come in it was always within about 2 minutes, but usually its been about 30-40 seconds. i give it about 3-4 minutes then ill try a bit further on. it may have just been coincidence that you spooked that fox, but keep persisting and it will soon pay off 8)

Joel, to me Fox whistling is like fishing for Redfin, if you don't get a bite in the first 5 Mins. find another promising spot. In saying that, I think I've got worms and I can't sit in the one spot very long! On the other hand, I've known Dave Whiting to sit and whistle for 10 Mins. Like Humphreys reply I find I get some sort of response in the first Min. Either running flat out at you ,or, flat out the other way  .
