Owen I think the main months are July August and they make a long drawn out drawl. Thats what I'd call it anyway.

Give it about three weeks and they will be starting to make a few noises I would think up my way they are rubbed out and its normaly not to long after that mid to end of june and into july. Its a half grunt half roar sound they make not like any other its a stand out though it dosnt sound like any other critter thats likely to be in the same area.

I was out two weekends ago and looked over seven stags all up and they are all tipped out and rubbing on my block. I wouldn't think it was far away now, anytime now and the end of June is my pick. That is where these ones are at anyway.
Cheers, Fenton.

Around here the stags have dispersed somewhat and have headed for the hills to rub out and change into rut mode. I've seen some crackers this year. They won't be back for a little longer but when they do it's going to be great. I've still seen a few about though and only a couple have rubbed out and others are just starting to. Can't wait.

Over the past few years the best time has been the week around the 20th July.

Like steely says thier roar is very different, excellent stuff in the thick lantana though - a godsend.
